Reviews SummaryThe oldest new vehicle on sale in 2026 is the Dodge Durango. While a 15-year age statement is a positive attribute for Scotch whisky, on a car it is a repellant. Save for minor alterations, the Durango has been sold exactly as it is since 2010, and its Mercedes ML-Class chassis is older still. Yet this three-row SUV has all the power, most of the technology, and a lot of the practicality that buyers expect in a modern midsize SUV for not a lot of money. Verdict: For buyers who like V8s and analog controls, the Durango is the next and only stop.
Reviews SummaryAutomakers have traditionally had a hard time making money on entry-level subcompact cars, because they have low profit margins, but America has largely moved away from cars to crossover SUVs—and higher prices. That allows car companies to offer an entry-level subcompact SUV for thousands more than a similar sedan or hatchback. Such is the case with the Hyundai Venue, which costs more than its predecessor, the subcompact Accent that was dropped after the 2022 model year. While the price is higher, the advantage for buyers is a vehicle that generally has more cargo space and is more practical. We recently drove the 2026 Hyundai Venue SEL w/2-Tone Roof (yes, that’s the trim level name) to find out if a subcompact crossover is a better buy than a cheaper subcompact car. Verdict: The Hyundai Venue sacrifices refinement for a price point that isn’t as low as a comparable subcompact car. We’d be tempted to spend a little more for a slightly larger compact car with more power, features, and refinement.

The 2026 Dodge Durango, despite its age, maintained a timeless style that appealed to many. While its competitors underwent multiple redesigns, Dodge managed to keep the Durango relevant with minor updates and special editions. The 2021 refresh brought changes to the grille, lighting, and bumpers, while the interior saw an overhaul of the dashboard. The Durango's exterior, with its blend of chunky fenders and smooth body panels, continued to look appealing. The signature wraparound LED taillight remained a distinctive feature, and the vehicle's stance and front end projected a tough, no-nonsense attitude. The America250 package, introduced in 2026, added unique interior and exterior touches, enhancing its appeal. Inside, the Durango showed its age with older switch styles and materials, but its analog controls were refreshingly straightforward. The interior offered a mix of leather, carbon fiber, and microsuede, though not of the highest quality, but the driving experience compensated for these shortcomings.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue, classified as a crossover SUV, had a design that leaned more towards a tall hatchback. Its compact size and narrow profile made it more suited for European streets than American highways. The Venue's design featured SUV cues like a bluff nose, roof rails, and black wheel flares, giving it a rugged appearance. Inside, the Venue offered a simple and functional layout. The digital instrument cluster added a modern touch, but the small touchscreen felt outdated. The interior was characterized by hard black plastic, with only a few soft-touch surfaces. Despite its budget-friendly nature, the Venue provided a comfortable driving experience with its cloth and synthetic leather seats, though legroom was limited for taller passengers. The rear seats folded flat to offer modest cargo space, but overall, the Venue's interior reflected cost-cutting measures.

The 2026 Dodge Durango was known for its powerful V8 engines, which were almost exclusively offered across its lineup. In 2025, Dodge reintroduced the 3.6-liter V6 due to customer demand for a more affordable and fuel-efficient option. However, the V6's 295 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque struggled to move the Durango's 5,000-pound frame. The 5.7-liter Hemi V8, available on GT and GT Plus models, delivered 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque, significantly boosting towing capacity to 8,700 pounds. The SRT Hellcat, with its 6.2-liter supercharged V8, offered an insane 710 hp, while the 6.4-liter V8 on the R/T trim produced 475 hp. Despite its power, the Durango's fuel efficiency was poor, with the Hemi V8 achieving 14 mpg city and 21 mpg highway. The Durango's handling was commendable, with minimal body roll and smooth shifts from the eight-speed automatic transmission. However, steering accuracy was lacking, and the ride was stiff, especially on the Hellcat trim.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue, on the other hand, was one of the least powerful vehicles on the market. Its 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine produced only 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) driving the front wheels. The Venue's performance was modest, with a 0-60 mph time of 8.5–8.8 seconds, aided by its lightweight 2,738-pound frame. While peppy in city traffic, the Venue struggled at highway speeds, with the CVT slow to respond. The Venue's handling benefited from its small size and low weight, making it easy to maneuver in traffic and park in tight spots. However, the ride was jiggly on rough roads due to its solid rear axle. The Venue's performance was adequate for city driving but lacked the power and refinement of larger SUVs.
The 2026 Dodge Durango offered seating configurations for five, six, or seven passengers, with a standard second-row bench seat on most trims. Captain's chairs were optional on GT Plus and GT Premium trims, providing easier access to the third row. The third row, however, was tight and not as spacious as modern competitors. Headroom and legroom in the first and second rows were decent, though seat padding was firm. The Durango's cargo space was competitive, with 17.2 cubic feet behind the third row, 43.3 cubic feet behind the second row, and 85.1 cubic feet with both rows folded.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue's interior featured cloth and synthetic leather seats with manual adjustments. While comfortable, legroom was limited for taller passengers. The rear seat could accommodate two adults, but three would be cramped. The Venue's cargo space was modest, with 31.9 cubic feet available with the rear seats folded and 18.7 cubic feet with them up. The rear cargo floor lifted to access a compact spare tire, but the lack of sound deadening was evident. The Venue's interior was dominated by hard black plastic, with limited soft-touch surfaces, reflecting its budget-friendly nature.
The 2026 Dodge Durango came equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen running Uconnect 5, offering features like navigation, HD Radio, SiriusXM 360L satellite radio, and wireless Apple CarPlay. However, Android Auto required a wired connection. The infotainment system included a five-year subscription to SiriusXM live traffic and travel info. The Durango's audio options ranged from a basic six-speaker system on the base GT to a 19-speaker Harman Kardon stereo on the GT Premium. Despite its tech offerings, the Durango lacked semi-automated driving functions and other modern conveniences.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue featured a simple 8-inch touchscreen for basic infotainment functions. While it lacked navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and SiriusXM satellite radio, it offered wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Venue's audio system was a basic six-speaker unit, with no premium options available. The digital instrument cluster provided limited information, and the Venue's tech features were adequate for its price point but lacked the sophistication of more expensive vehicles.
The 2026 Dodge Durango received a four-star overall rating from the NHTSA, but IIHS ratings were unavailable. It featured a driver's knee airbag and a central side airbag, but its dated body structure limited its crash performance. Standard safety features included blind-spot monitors and parking sensors, while advanced features like automatic emergency braking were limited to higher trims.
The 2026 Hyundai Venue offered a good set of standard safety features, including forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keep assist. However, adaptive cruise control was not available. The Venue received a four-star rating from the NHTSA, with mixed IIHS ratings. Its safety systems worked well, but the driver attention monitor was overly sensitive.
