2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC Reviews Summary

We reviewed the GLC SUV when it was all-new for the 2023 model year–and available with only one powertrain. AMG variants have rejoined the GLC 300 for 2024, and the GLC Coupe, which was a carryover last year, now catches up with the redesigned GLC SUV. For the purposes of this review, we’ve focused our attention on the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43, which we spent a week putting through its paces on our home turf.

Verdict: We suspect the AMG-tuned GLC misses the mark on what most shoppers are looking for in a luxury crossover, but for the right driver, it may very well prove worth the wait. For everyone else, the GLC 300 has everything we feel we have a right to hope for from a sub-$50k Mercedes-Benz.

2024 Lexus GX Reviews Summary

Redesigning a long-running vehicle requires a big swing, and after fourteen years since the second-generation model debuted, building the all-new 2024 GX was a tall order. Lexus’s engineers struck out to make this midsize SUV better in every way: better tech, a better engine, more capability, and more luxury. They succeeded.

Verdict: Comfortable but rugged, the thirsty, body-on-frame Lexus GX isn’t the right luxury SUV for every shopper. However, for those in the market for this particular blend of lavish capability, it may be the best option on the market.

2024 Lexus GX

8/10

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC retained much of its predecessor's design, opting for subtle updates to maintain its appeal among loyal customers. The exterior changes included repositioned door handles, more aggressive headlights, and a redesigned rear with connected taillights. The GLC Coupe continued to feature its distinctive fastback roofline, while the grille differentiated AMG models with vertical bars reminiscent of pinstripes. Inside, the GLC impressed with its luxurious interior, featuring two-tone leather upholstery, optional wood-and-metal dash treatments, and an abundance of screens and controls, making it a gadget lover's dream.

In contrast, the 2024 Lexus GX underwent a significant transformation, embracing a more geometric and aggressive design. The spindle grille became less pronounced, and the front fascia stood more vertically, giving the SUV a bolder appearance. The GX's interior was more minimalist, with fewer physical buttons but retaining essential controls. It offered spacious seating for six-foot adults in the first two rows, while the third row was best suited for children. The GX excelled in cargo space, especially in Overtrail models, which provided ample room for gear and luggage.

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC 43 featured a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 416 horsepower, surpassing the previous generation's V6. The GLC 300, with 255 horsepower, offered a more modest performance. The GLC 43's AMG Speedshift MCT 9-speed transmission provided quick shifts, enhancing its sporty nature, though it resulted in a firmer ride. The GLC 300's 9G-Tronic transmission was smoother, making it more suitable for daily commuting. The GLC 43's performance suspension and four-wheel steering catered to enthusiasts seeking dynamic driving experiences.

The 2024 Lexus GX replaced its V8 engine with a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6, delivering 349 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. The GX's powertrain provided ample low-end torque, making it well-suited for off-road adventures. Built on the GA-F truck platform, the GX offered a stiffer chassis for improved stability on and off-road. The 10-speed automatic transmission operated smoothly, and the standard full-time 4WD system, along with the Overtrail's advanced suspension, enhanced its off-road capabilities. The GX impressed with its composed on-road behavior, despite its off-road prowess.
