2023 Genesis GV70 Reviews SummaryThe definition of luxury has changed. No matter where you look in the various premium vehicle segments, there are entrants that you may not have seen decades ago. From performance SUVs to subcompact crossovers, there are new takes on upscale vehicles. But just as crucially is the entrance of new players. In 2015, the Genesis brand was officially spun off from Hyundai. And with the brand’s expansion into various segments, a compact like the 2023 Genesis GV70 was a must. The GV70 was introduced for the 2022 model year and for 2023, an all-electric model joins the lineup. We evaluated the GV70 on the whole, but with a special focus on how effective the 2023 Genesis GV70 Electrified is as an EV and as a compact luxury crossover.
2024 Chevrolet Traverse Reviews SummaryThe 2024 Chevrolet Traverse has gone from being something of a wallflower to becoming one of the more stand-out choices among midsize SUVs with three rows of seating. That’s because Chevrolet’s design and engineering team did its homework when it came time to update this third generation of the Traverse, a model that has featured in the brand’s lineup since its introduction back for the 2009 model year. The 2024 Chevy Traverse is taller, wider, and longer than the outgoing variant. It’s also much more memorable to look at; following current SUV trends, Chevrolet gave the Traverse a more rugged appearance that borrows from both the full-size Tahoe SUV and Sierra pickup truck. Styling is always subjective, but in this instance, we think it’s fair to say Chevy got things right. Verdict: More important than any additional visual bravado is that the 2024 Traverse has been improved in countless other ways. It has more standard driver aids, such as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. There is more space for passengers, particularly those seated in the third row. And the infotainment system gets a much larger touchscreen.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 was a striking blend of luxury and style, drawing inspiration from its sedan counterpart, the G70. Its design featured split-bar headlights and a distinctive chrome line that elegantly curved from behind the rear window, giving it a coupe-like appearance without sacrificing versatility. Inside, the GV70's cabin was a testament to luxury, with high-quality materials and impeccable fit and finish. The interior design was both contemporary and classic, with climate controls integrated into a curving bezel and a touchscreen that seamlessly rose from the dash. The GV70's dash was equipped with a full touchscreen, a rotary dial, and button controls, offering a user-friendly experience. The physical rollers on the center console and steering wheel were a nod to practicality, providing a tactile alternative to touch capacitive controls.
In contrast, the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse offered a more rugged appeal, especially with the introduction of the Z71 trim, designed for moderate off-roading. The Traverse's exterior was complemented by gloss black-painted 18-inch alloy wheels and a choice of six colors, including the premium Iridescent Pearl Tricoat. Inside, the Traverse featured a Jet Black interior with "Torch Red" accents, adding a touch of flair. The Z71 model provided a comfortable ride, even with its all-terrain tires and additional ground clearance. The Traverse's interior was spacious, with seating configurations that accommodated up to eight passengers, and the Smart Slide second-row seats made accessing the third row a breeze. The power-folding third row and Autosense power liftgate added convenience, while the hidden storage areas provided practical solutions for stowing belongings.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 offered a choice between two gas-powered engines and an electrified version. The 2.5T model featured a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, while the 3.5T model boasted a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine with 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. Both engines were paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The GV70 Electrified used a 77.4-kWh battery pack, powering two electric motors for a combined 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. It offered a smooth and confident acceleration, with a Boost Mode that temporarily increased output to 483 horsepower. The electric GV70 had a range of 236 miles and supported DC fast charging, replenishing the battery from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.
The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse replaced its previous 3.6-liter V6 engine with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque. This new engine provided more power and torque than its predecessor, enhancing the Traverse's performance. All-wheel drive was optional on every trim, with the Z71 model featuring a more advanced dual-clutch system for improved traction. The Traverse offered satisfactory acceleration and passing power, with a pleasant exhaust note during acceleration. The steering was adequate for most driving situations, and the ride quality was commendable, even with the Z71's all-terrain tires. The brakes were progressive, and the stop-and-start feature operated seamlessly. Fuel economy estimates ranged from 18 mpg city to 26 mpg highway, depending on the drivetrain configuration.
The 2023 Genesis GV70 provided 56.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded and 28.9 cubic feet with the seats in use, making it competitive in the compact luxury SUV segment. The GV70 featured a hands-free power liftgate, large cupholders in the center console, and a retractable tray for added convenience. While the front seats offered ample comfort and adjustability, the rear seats had tighter legroom, requiring front-row occupants to adjust their seats for rear passenger comfort. The rear bench could recline, enhancing seating comfort.
The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse offered versatile seating configurations, with the base LS model accommodating eight passengers and higher trims featuring second-row captain's chairs for seven-passenger seating. The Smart Slide second-row seats facilitated easy access to the third row, which could comfortably accommodate average-size adults. The Traverse's cargo volume was impressive, with 22.9 cubic feet behind the third row and approximately 96 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded. The Autosense power liftgate and hidden storage areas added practicality, while the power-operated driver's seat made finding a comfortable position effortless.
The 2023 Genesis GV70 featured a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The touchscreen was user-friendly, with large icons and logical menu navigation. The GV70 also included four USB ports, wireless device charging, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a nine-speaker stereo system. Ambient lighting, a digital instrument panel, and the Genesis digital key were available features. However, the proximity of the rotary dial to the vehicle's rotary shifter could lead to confusion for drivers.
The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse boasted a significant upgrade in its infotainment system, with a standard 17.7-inch touchscreen replacing the previous 8-inch screen. The system offered rapid response times and intuitive menus, complemented by an 11-inch digital instrument display. The Google-based software provided voice commands, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The wireless charging pad securely held smartphones during cornering. The Traverse retained physical controls for volume and HVAC functions, though the driving mode button was less prominently placed. The Super Cruise hands-free driving aid was available for the first time, offering expanded functionality on pre-mapped single-lane roadways.
The 2023 Genesis GV70 came equipped with a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance technologies, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, driver attention monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The 2.5T model's Advance Package added a blind-spot camera system, reverse automatic emergency braking, and a 360-degree parking camera system. The Electrified GV70 included most of these features as standard, with the head-up display available in the Prestige trim.
The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse had not yet undergone crash tests by the NHTSA or IIHS at the time of testing. However, it offered a wide range of standard driver aids, including automatic emergency braking with cyclist and pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, side-exit assist, rear pedestrian alert, and a surround-view parking camera. These features provided peace of mind during the test drive.
