2022 Genesis GV70 Reviews SummaryHyundai’s Genesis luxury brand has only been around for about five years, but it’s progressed so much in that time it seems like much longer than that. Genesis has quickly gone from selling two repurposed Hyundai sedans to fielding a full lineup of luxury cars and creating a distinct identity through bold design. The 2022 Genesis GV70 is the brand’s latest effort. Not to be confused with the Genesis G70 sedan, the GV70 is a crossover SUV positioned below the recently-launched Genesis GV80 in size and price, meaning it competes with the Acura RDX, Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, Volvo XC60, and numerous other small luxury SUVs. As with the larger GV80 and the Genesis sedans, the challenge for the GV70 will be convincing new-car buyers to abandon familiar nameplates for something they might not have heard of. The GV70 launches with a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and optional 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6. The four-cylinder is available with Standard, Select, Advanced, and Sport Prestige trim levels, while the V6 engine is available with all trim levels except the Select. Our test car was a GV70 3.5T, a range-topping AWD Sport Prestige model with the 3.5-liter V6.
2022 Nissan Rogue Reviews SummaryThe 2022 Nissan Rogue is a two-row crossover compact SUV with frameless, unibody construction, riding on a platform that was all-new for 2021 and shared with the soon-to-arrive next-generation Mitsubishi Outlander. It comes with front-wheel drive (FWD) or available all-wheel drive (AWD) and in four trim levels. FWD prices start at $26,700 and go up to $36,480 (plus options), equating to a $650 increase for FWD models and $750 increase for AWD models compared to the 2021 model year. Adding all-wheel drive costs $1,500 on any trim level. And those prices include a new, more powerful engine and a new transmission. At 33 mpg combined, the 2022 Rogue is the current leader in its non-hybrid compact crossover SUV class.

The 2022 Genesis GV70 boasted a distinctive design that set it apart from its siblings in the Genesis lineup. It featured the brand's signature quad LED strips for headlights and taillights, along with a prominent shield-shaped grille. The GV70's sloping roofline and ribbed detailing added a touch of athleticism to its SUV bulk, creating a balance between ruggedness and sleekness. The Sport Prestige model further enhanced its character with unique styling elements, including a model-specific front fascia, 21-inch wheels with a web pattern, and dark chrome trim. Inside, the GV70's interior was inspired by an airplane wing's cross-section, with an elliptical theme that extended to the controls, door handles, and armrests. The minimalist design incorporated a rotary gear selector and infotainment controller, giving the cabin a futuristic feel. Genesis offered a variety of interior color options, and the material quality in the Sport Prestige model was luxurious, featuring Nappa leather upholstery with suede inserts.
The 2022 Nissan Rogue continued to build on its reputation as a top seller with a mature and sophisticated design. Its exterior featured Nissan's V-motion grille, multi-level LED headlights, and a floating roof illusion created by dark supporting pillars. The SL and Platinum trims included LED fog lamps, while active grille shutters and underbody covers improved airflow. Inside, the Rogue's cabin showcased a layered dash design with contrasting colors and surfaces, creating a tasteful and detailed look. The center console was a standout feature, with an electronic gear selector lever that freed up space for storage. The 9-inch infotainment display was positioned for easy visibility, and the instrument panel offered a 7-inch or 12.3-inch digital screen, depending on the trim. The Rogue's Zero Gravity bucket-style front seats provided comfort, and the spacious second row accommodated passengers with ample legroom. The fit and finish of the Rogue were exemplary, especially in the top-of-the-line Platinum model.

The 2022 Genesis GV70 offered two engine options: a base 2.5-liter turbo-four engine producing 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 generating 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. Both engines were paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. The GV70 included features like a rear electronic limited-slip differential and launch control, emphasizing its sporty character. The Sport+ drive mode enhanced throttle response and transmission behavior for spirited driving. However, the GV70's chassis and steering lacked the sharpness of some competitors, and its ride was firm, even in Comfort mode. The GV70 excelled in highway cruising but fell short of the luxury driving experience expected from its class.
The 2022 Nissan Rogue received a performance boost with its new 1.5-liter VC-Turbo engine, producing 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque. This engine improved both power and fuel efficiency, achieving an estimated 30 mpg city/37 mpg highway/33 mpg combined. The Rogue's CVT transmission featured wider gear ratios, enhancing acceleration and responsiveness. The chassis and suspension provided a smooth and controlled ride, with minimal body roll. The electric power-assisted steering offered good feel, and the Rogue's tight turning diameter added to its maneuverability. While the Rogue's performance wasn't exhilarating, it was well-suited for everyday driving and offered a comfortable ride.
The 2022 Genesis GV70 provided mid-pack interior space for its segment. It offered comparable front-seat headroom to the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class and back-seat headroom to the BMW X3. Cargo space measured 28.9 cubic feet with the rear seats in place and 56.9 cubic feet with them folded, placing it in the middle range of its class. The interior design, while daring, compromised storage space, with limited room in the center console and door pockets. The front seats in the Sport Prestige model were heavily bolstered, offering support for spirited driving but potentially feeling confining for some. The driver's seat and front passenger's featured heating, ventilation, massage, and posture-assist functions, though some controls were buried in touchscreen menus.
The 2022 Nissan Rogue excelled in interior space and storage options. The front cabin offered numerous storage solutions, including bottle holders, cupholders, a glove compartment, and a center console bin. Rear-seat passengers had storage options in the doors, seatbacks, and center armrest, along with USB-A and USB-C charge-only ports. The second-row seat was a 60/40 split reclining bench. The Rogue's cargo area was generous, with 31.6-36.5 cubic feet of space, expandable to 74.1 cubic feet with the second row folded. This made it a practical choice for families and those needing ample cargo capacity.
The 2022 Genesis GV70 impressed with its tech offerings. The standard infotainment system featured a 14.5-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The tile-based layout and crisp graphics made it user-friendly. Higher trim levels offered a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch head-up display with a 3D effect. The GV70 included a digital-key feature, allowing drivers to use a smartphone as a key fob, and a fingerprint scanner for starting the car. Genesis Connected Services provided remote access to the vehicle's cameras and other features, enhancing convenience and safety.
The 2022 Nissan Rogue continued its tech upgrade from the previous year. Upper trim levels featured a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a 10.8-inch head-up display. Navigation-equipped models used Google Maps and Waze with voice commands. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard, with wireless Apple CarPlay available on higher trims. ProPilot Assist, Nissan's hands-on driver-assist technology, was available and integrated with the navigation system for predictive speed control. The Rogue's Intelligent Key allowed for easy access to both front and rear doors, enhancing convenience for families.
The 2022 Genesis GV70 came equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features, including lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, blind-spot and forward collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver-attention monitor. It also featured Highway Driving Assist, which added automated lane centering to adaptive cruise control. The GV70 included eight standard airbags, including a front-center airbag. Optional driver-assist features included Highway Driving Assist 2 with lane-change functionality and navigation-based adaptive cruise control.
The 2022 Nissan Rogue featured the Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite of safety technologies across all trim levels. Standard safety features included automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, high beam assist, and rear automatic braking. The Rogue had ten supplemental airbags and extended crumple zones for passive safety. ProPilot Assist, available on higher trims, combined steering-assist and adaptive cruise control for enhanced driver assistance. The 2022 Rogue received a four-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA, while the 2021 model earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.
