2022 Genesis GV70 Reviews SummaryHyundai’s Genesis luxury brand has only been around for about five years, but it’s progressed so much in that time it seems like much longer than that. Genesis has quickly gone from selling two repurposed Hyundai sedans to fielding a full lineup of luxury cars and creating a distinct identity through bold design. The 2022 Genesis GV70 is the brand’s latest effort. Not to be confused with the Genesis G70 sedan, the GV70 is a crossover SUV positioned below the recently-launched Genesis GV80 in size and price, meaning it competes with the Acura RDX, Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, Volvo XC60, and numerous other small luxury SUVs. As with the larger GV80 and the Genesis sedans, the challenge for the GV70 will be convincing new-car buyers to abandon familiar nameplates for something they might not have heard of. The GV70 launches with a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and optional 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6. The four-cylinder is available with Standard, Select, Advanced, and Sport Prestige trim levels, while the V6 engine is available with all trim levels except the Select. Our test car was a GV70 3.5T, a range-topping AWD Sport Prestige model with the 3.5-liter V6.
2022 Ford Expedition Reviews SummaryCertain cars garner a surprising amount of attention. While driving a 2022 Ford Expedition Limited in Stone Blue Metallic with one of the Stealth Edition option packages, we received numerous compliments on this SUV, and it was all related to the paint color and the wheels. Fortunately for Ford, the 2022 Expedition’s beauty is more than skin deep. This is a terrific full-size SUV in all ways but one.

The 2022 Genesis GV70 boasted a distinctive design that set it apart from its siblings in the Genesis lineup. It featured the brand's signature quad LED headlights and taillights, along with a prominent shield-shaped grille. However, the GV70's sloping roofline and ribbed detailing added a unique touch, blending SUV bulk with sleek, car-like elements. The Sport Prestige model further enhanced its character with unique styling features, including a model-specific front fascia, 21-inch wheels with a web pattern, and dark chrome trim. Inside, the GV70's interior embraced an elliptical theme inspired by an airplane wing, with a minimalistic design that incorporated a rotary gear selector and infotainment controller. The interior offered a range of color options and luxurious materials, such as Nappa leather upholstery with suede seat inserts.
In contrast, the 2022 Ford Expedition underwent several updates, including exterior styling revisions and updated infotainment technology. The front of the Expedition featured a new grille, headlights, and bumper, while the rear received revised taillights, tailgate trim, and a new bumper. The Expedition was available in various trims, including the off-road-focused Timberline trim. Inside, the Expedition's redesigned dashboard housed the new Sync 4 and Sync 4A infotainment systems, with the latter featuring a large 15.5-inch touchscreen display. The interior offered power-adjustable, leather-wrapped, heated, and ventilated front seats, along with a spacious cabin that provided ample room for passengers. The Expedition's interior was designed for comfort and convenience, with features like a wide console, hidden cupholders, and a concealed cubby with a wireless smartphone charging pad.

The 2022 Genesis GV70 offered two engine options: a base 2.5-liter turbo-four engine producing 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 generating 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. Both powertrains came with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive (AWD). The GV70 also featured a rear electronic limited-slip differential and launch control, emphasizing its sporty character. The Sport+ drive mode further enhanced the GV70's performance, sharpening throttle response and holding high revs. However, the GV70's chassis felt heavy, lacking the sharpness of some competitors, and the steering was not as precise for spirited driving. The GV70 excelled in highway cruising but had a firm ride, even in Comfort mode.
The 2022 Ford Expedition was equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, producing 380 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. The engine drove the rear wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission, with an optional 4WD system. The Expedition's powertrain offered impressive towing capabilities, ranging from 9,000 to 9,300 pounds. The twin-turbo V6 delivered an addictive power experience, with a signature sound that pleased enthusiasts. However, the Expedition's fuel economy was a concern, with observed fuel economy at 16.2 mpg. The Expedition's driving dynamics could benefit from an adaptive damping suspension, as the sport-tuned suspension contributed to a harsh ride quality. Despite its size, the Expedition was surprisingly easy to park, thanks to excellent visibility and parking aids. On the highway, the Expedition excelled, providing a comfortable and quiet ride for long journeys.
The 2022 Genesis GV70 offered mid-pack interior space for its segment. Despite its car-like roofline, it provided adequate headroom in both the front and rear seats. The GV70's cargo space measured 28.9 cubic feet with the rear seats in place and 56.9 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The interior design, while daring, compromised storage space, with a slim center console and thin door pockets. The front seats in the Sport Prestige model were heavily bolstered, offering heating, ventilation, massage, and posture-assist functions.
The 2022 Ford Expedition excelled in interior space and comfort, offering a spacious cabin with easy access, thanks to available power running boards. The Expedition's interior featured power-adjustable, leather-wrapped, heated, and ventilated front seats, along with a wide console and hidden storage compartments. The second-row captain's chairs provided ample legroom and comfort, with climate controls and cupholders. The third-row seat offered outstanding leg support, although headroom could be tight for taller passengers. The Expedition's cargo space measured 19.3 cubic feet behind the third row, with the option to expand to 57.5 cubic feet by folding the third row. The Expedition Max variant offered even more cargo space.
The 2022 Genesis GV70 came equipped with a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The system's tile-based layout and crisp graphics made it user-friendly. Higher trim levels offered a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch head-up display. The GV70 also featured a digital-key function, allowing drivers to use a smartphone in place of a key fob, and a fingerprint scanner for starting the car. Genesis Connected Services provided additional features, including remote camera activation and driver profiles.
The 2022 Ford Expedition featured Ford's next-generation Sync 4 and Sync 4A infotainment systems. The standard Sync 4 system included a 12-inch touchscreen, while the optional Sync 4A system offered a larger 15.5-inch touchscreen. Both systems supported wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with FordPass Connect and a connected navigation system. Sync 4A added features like conversational voice recognition and an adaptive dashcard user interface. The Expedition also offered a dual-touchscreen rear-seat entertainment system with Amazon Fire TV. Additionally, the Expedition was available with Pro Trailer Backup Assist 2.0, simplifying trailer reversing.
The 2022 Genesis GV70 came standard with a comprehensive suite of safety features, including lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, blind-spot and forward collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver-attention monitor. It also featured Highway Driving Assist, which added automated lane centering to adaptive cruise control. The GV70 included eight standard airbags, including a front-center airbag. Optional driver-assist features included Highway Driving Assist 2, which added lane-change functionality and navigation-based adaptive cruise control.
The 2022 Ford Expedition offered a range of safety features through its Ford Co-Pilot360 collections. The standard package included forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a driver monitoring system. The Co-Pilot360 Assist+ package added adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, and new features like intersection assist and evasive steering assist. The Co-Pilot Assist 2.0 package, available on higher trims, included a surround-view camera system and rear automatic emergency braking. The Expedition also offered Ford's BlueCruise hands-free driving technology for approved highways.
