2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport vs 2022 Nissan Rogue

The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport, which debuted in 2005, was still in its second generation. The current generation, introduced in 2014, received a significant refresh in 2018 that carried over into 2021. This refresh included a dual-screen center console, a defining feature of Land Rover interiors. The 2020 model year saw the introduction of a plug-in hybrid variant and the availability of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Range Rover Sport offered various trims, including SE, HSE Silver, HST, HSE Dynamic, Autobiography, SVR, and SVR Carbon Edition, each with a range of luxurious features.

The 2022 Nissan Rogue, redesigned in 2021, continued to build on its mature and sophisticated look. The exterior featured Nissan’s V-motion grille, multi-level LED headlights, and a floating roof design. Inside, the Rogue showcased a layered dash with contrasting colors and surfaces, an electronic gear selector lever, and ample storage options. The center console included a wireless charging pad, a 9-inch infotainment display, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel in upper trims. The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport offered a variety of powertrain options. The base P360 mild-hybrid powertrain, available in the SE and SE Silver Edition, combined a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with a 48-volt electrical system, producing 355 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. The HSE Dynamic and Autobiography trims boasted a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine with 518 hp and 461 lb-ft of torque. The SVR and SVR Carbon Edition received an even more powerful version of this engine, making 575 hp and 516 lb-ft. All models featured an eight-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel drive, with height-adjustable air suspension and a Terrain Response system for various driving conditions. The Range Rover Sport could tow up to 7,716 pounds, except for the SVR, which could tow 6,613 pounds.

The 2022 Nissan Rogue benefited from a new 1.5-liter VC-Turbo engine, producing 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque, an 11 percent increase in horsepower and 24 percent more torque than the previous 2.5-liter engine. This engine featured Variable Compression technology, which adjusted the compression ratio for optimal performance and efficiency. The Rogue’s new CVT transmission offered wider gear ratios, improving acceleration and responsiveness. The Rogue achieved impressive fuel economy, with EPA estimates of 30 mpg city, 37 mpg highway, and 33 mpg combined.

The Rogue’s chassis and suspension provided a smooth, controlled ride with minimal body roll, and the electric power-assisted steering offered good feel. The 35.4-foot turning diameter was tight, making the Rogue easy to maneuver.

The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport provided a maximum of 63.7 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded and 31.7 cubic feet with the second row in use. An optional third row increased seating capacity to seven but reduced cargo space to 10.8 cubic feet. Both the first and second rows offered ample headroom and legroom, while the third row was best suited for children.

The 2022 Nissan Rogue featured the Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite of safety technologies across all trim levels. The Rogue had ten supplemental airbags and extended crumple zones for passive safety. ProPilot Assist, available on upper trims, combined steering-assist and adaptive cruise control for Level 2 advanced driver-assist capabilities.
