2021 Jeep Wrangler Reviews Summary

The Jeep Wrangler is an icon. Sports cars like the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Corvette may often be described as icons, but they can’t hold a candle to the Wrangler’s bona fides. It harkens back to the original Willys Jeep and has evolved through the years to be an instantly recognizable fixture of the American motoring landscape.

What makes this all the more incredible is how the industry has changed through the years. The best-selling SUVs on the market are all based on car platforms, and emphasize efficiency and comfort. Yet the rugged, comparatively inefficient Wrangler, which also rides like a truck, is still popular.

Part of that comes from being different from everyone else, but another part is Jeep’s commitment to continually update the Wrangler to meet the demands of its buyers. The four-door 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited accomplishes both, by now offering a Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid (changing with the times) and a potent Hemi V8 (beating to its own drum). Both powertrains are exclusive to the four-door Wrangler; neither is available with the two-door Wrangler body style.

2022 Nissan Rogue Reviews Summary

The 2022 Nissan Rogue is a two-row crossover compact SUV with frameless, unibody construction, riding on a platform that was all-new for 2021 and shared with the soon-to-arrive next-generation Mitsubishi Outlander. It comes with front-wheel drive (FWD) or available all-wheel drive (AWD) and in four trim levels. FWD prices start at $26,700 and go up to $36,480 (plus options), equating to a $650 increase for FWD models and $750 increase for AWD models compared to the 2021 model year. Adding all-wheel drive costs $1,500 on any trim level. And those prices include a new, more powerful engine and a new transmission. At 33 mpg combined, the 2022 Rogue is the current leader in its non-hybrid compact crossover SUV class.

Look and feel

2021 Jeep Wrangler

7/10

2022 Nissan Rogue

7/10

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler maintained its iconic status with its timeless design elements. Enthusiasts could easily identify the notched grille, inset headlights, and scalloped air extractors behind the front fenders. The Wrangler's distinctive circular headlights, seven-slat grille, exposed bolts and hinges, and protruding bumpers and fenders gave it a toy truck-like appearance that appealed to many. Depending on the trim level, the Wrangler could sport different looks, such as painted or exposed fenders and various top options, but it always retained its unmistakable identity.

Inside, the Wrangler was not built for comfort but for rugged charm. Drivers sat upright with limited legroom, and seat adjustments were made using somewhat awkward ripcords. The trims ranged from the bare-bones Sport with manual features to the more luxurious High Altitude with leather seats and a larger touchscreen. The Rubicon trim catered to off-road enthusiasts with beefed-up suspension and running gear, while the Rubicon 392 added a powerful Hemi V8 engine and unique visual distinctions.

The 2022 Nissan Rogue, redesigned in 2021, continued to impress with its mature and sophisticated styling. It featured Nissan’s V-motion grille, multi-level LED headlights, and active grille shutters for improved airflow. The floating roof design and slightly bulging liftgate added to its sleek appearance. Inside, the Rogue boasted a layered dash with contrasting colors and surfaces, a highlight being the electronic gear selector lever that freed up space in the center console.

The Rogue's cabin was designed with practicality in mind, offering numerous storage options and comfortable Zero Gravity bucket-style front seats. The second row provided ample legroom and could accommodate two adults comfortably. The fit and finish were exemplary, especially in the top-of-the-line Platinum model, which featured high-quality materials and a sophisticated look.

Other options included a 270-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 with 260 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. The Wrangler also introduced a plug-in hybrid variant, the 4xe, with 275 hp and up to 22 miles of electric range.

The Rubicon 392 stood out with its 6.4-liter V8 engine, delivering 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, transforming the Wrangler into an off-road supercar. It featured beefed-up frame-rails, a 2-inch lift with Fox shock absorbers, and upgraded brakes. The dual-mode performance exhaust emitted an incredible rumble, adding to the vehicle's appeal.
