The 2022 Genesis GV70 is the brand’s latest effort. Not to be confused with the Genesis G70 sedan, the GV70 is a crossover SUV positioned below the recently-launched Genesis GV80 in size and price, meaning it competes with the Acura RDX, Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, Volvo XC60, and numerous other small luxury SUVs. As with the larger GV80 and the Genesis sedans, the challenge for the GV70 will be convincing new-car buyers to abandon familiar nameplates for something they might not have heard of.

The GV70 launches with a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and optional 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6. The four-cylinder is available with Standard, Select, Advanced, and Sport Prestige trim levels, while the V6 engine is available with all trim levels except the Select. Our test car was a GV70 3.5T, a range-topping AWD Sport Prestige model with the 3.5-liter V6.

The 2021 Genesis GV80, as Genesis' first SUV, was a fresh design that managed to balance innovation with the brand's emerging signature style. It featured a long hood, short front overhang, and a distinctive grille with a diamond mesh pattern, complemented by the "Quad Lamp" LED headlight array. The SUV's design was both elegant and bold, with large wheel arches and a rear that echoed the front's styling. Inside, the GV80 offered a luxurious experience with a sleek, uncluttered dashboard, real wood, metal, and leather materials, and a 14.5-inch high-definition display, creating a sophisticated and spacious environment.

The 2022 Genesis GV70, while inheriting some styling elements from its predecessors, presented a unique appearance with a sloping roofline and ribbed detailing that added a muscular profile. The GV70 combined SUV bulk with athletic, car-like elements, making it appear both rugged and sleek. The Sport Prestige model featured unique styling with 21-inch wheels and dark chrome trim, while the interior boasted an elliptical theme inspired by an airplane wing. The cabin was minimalistic yet luxurious, with a rotary gear selector and a variety of interior color options, including Nappa leather upholstery in higher trims.

The 2021 Genesis GV80 offered two engine options: a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 with 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. The V6 models came with standard all-wheel drive, while the four-cylinder models had rear-wheel drive with an all-wheel-drive option. Both engines were paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The GV80's ride was supported by a 116.3-inch wheelbase and independent multi-link suspension, with advanced features like electronically-controlled suspension and an electronic limited-slip differential available on the 3.5T models. The GV80's fuel economy ranged from 18 to 25 mpg, depending on the engine and drivetrain configuration.

The 2022 Genesis GV70 also featured a 2.5-liter turbo-four engine with 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 generating 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque.
