2020 Dodge Durango Reviews Summary

Dodge says it has three muscle cars in its lineup, but if you check out the website, you’ll see the Challenger and Charger. Where is the third? According to Dodge, it’s the Durango three-row SUV. Even though it is a seven-passenger family hauler, it has eye-catching muscle car styling cues. It is also available in a number of high-horsepower trims that deliver on the styling.

For that performance and style, you give up a bit of usability compared to leaders in the segment like the Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, and Kia Telluride. The Durango also feels a bit dated compared to those vehicles. So, is this tradeoff worth it?

2021 BMW X7 Reviews Summary

In some parts of America, large luxury three-row SUVs are commonplace, but the list of available models is relatively short. Until recently, one famous German automaker was missing from the menu, but when the X7 arrived for the 2019 model year as a new BMW, that changed.

Based on the BMW X5 and built in the same South Carolina factory, the 2021 BMW X7 sees a few changes for 2021. The standard xDrive40i model gains a 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrain offering an incremental increase in efficiency, BMW cancels the xDrive50i version, and the performance-tuned Alpina XB7 debuts.

BMW also modifies the SUV’s standard, optional, and package equipment this year, restricting many of the X7’s most decadent features to the Alpina XB7.

2020 Dodge Durango

7/10

2021 BMW X7

8/10

The 2020 Dodge Durango retained its styling from a 2014 update, with its design roots tracing back to a 2011 redesign. Its connection to the Charger muscle sedan was evident, though the platform was undeniably dated. The Durango's cabin design was straightforward but felt outdated compared to its Jeep Grand Cherokee sibling, which had received more significant updates. The Durango was in need of a refresh, which was anticipated for the 2021 model year, promising more aggressive exterior styling and a reworked cabin. The 2020 Durango offered various trims, each with distinct features, from the basic SXT with 18-inch wheels and a 7-inch touchscreen to the performance-oriented SRT with a unique look and optional racing stripes.

In contrast, the 2021 BMW X7 was a standout in its class, offering superior interior quality and technological sophistication. It was considered more prestigious than its competitors, such as the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator. The X7's styling was bold, with a massive grille that suited its large SUV frame. Inside, the X7 shared design elements with the X5 but offered a more luxurious experience. The cabin was equipped with high-quality materials and advanced technology, providing a comfortable and sophisticated environment for its occupants. The X7's presence on the road was significant, making it a top choice for those seeking a blend of luxury and performance.

The R/T trim featured a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque, also available on the Citadel. The SRT trim boasted a 6.4-liter Hemi V8, delivering 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. All engines were paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive options. The SRT trim stood out with its performance-tuned suspension and Brembo brakes, offering impressive acceleration and handling for its size.

The 2021 BMW X7 xDrive40i featured a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine, producing 335 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque. It was equipped with an eight-speed sport automatic transmission and BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The X7 incorporated eBoost mild-hybrid technology, enhancing fuel efficiency and responsiveness. Despite a slight drop in EPA ratings, the X7 offered ample power, accelerating to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds. The Dynamic Handling Package improved driving dynamics, though the X7's weight was noticeable on winding roads. The X7 excelled in comfort and technology, providing a smooth and serene driving experience.

The Durango's towing capacity ranged from 6,200 to 8,700 pounds, depending on the configuration.

The 2021 BMW X7 provided a luxurious interior with features like heated and ventilated seats, premium leather upholstery, and a five-zone climate control system. The front seats were exceptionally comfortable, and the second-row captain's chairs offered ample space. The third row was surprisingly accommodating for adults, though accessing it required some maneuvering of the power seats. The X7's cargo space was slightly less than some competitors, with 48.6 cubic feet behind the second row and 90.4 cubic feet with the second row folded. The power clamshell tailgate added convenience for loading and unloading.
