The Toyota Sienna was totally redesigned for 2004, resulting in a larger, more powerful minivan. The 2004 Sienna really distinguished itself with the availability of all-wheel drive, which made it the only minivan on the market with such an option. The larger size made for more interior space, but despite the Sienna's new girth, the turning radius was reduced by 3 feet.
The 2004 Toyota Sienna came in four trims: the CE, the LE, the XLE, and the XLE Limited. The CE is extremely bare-bones, offering only the most basic features, with the XLE Limited coming fully loaded with plenty of high-end amenities. The LE and both XLEs are available with AWD. Across the board, the engine is a 3.3-liter, 240-hp V6. Fuel economy is 19 mpg city/27 highway.
Toyota Sienna fans applauded the new 2004 Sienna. They were especially enthusiastic about the improved turning radius and disappearing third-row seats. Drivers are disappointed with a perceived lag time in acceleration and the car's price tag when options are added.

Previously we owned a 2003 Sienna and this one-year upgrade (and new model) have made a big difference. The XLE package with DVD is very nice with kids but the controls are all in the back so that is difficult when the parents are sitting in front. We eventually pretty much learned how to reach back and feel the buttons. This XLE model has storage everywhere, we don't really use it all. There's even storage under the armrests on the driver and front passenger doors. The wider wheelbase and the slightly longer 2004 model makes a big difference and the fold into the floor back row seats is very nice when you fold them down and it's nice when they are up because you have the lower floor behind the back seat to store more stuff. The engine is fine for power and has plenty of get-up to pass on the interstate but the we really don't ever average much more than 25 mpg, usually less than 19 in the city. I had to replace both sliding door cable assemblies, which is a pain, (but not worth the $1,400 the dealer will charge you) and I actually wrote up a tutorial on my website on how to do the repair. I had to replace the radiator last year but other than that it's been a good van. Make sure to replace your shocks and struts or you'll ruin your tires!May 21, 2015

This car is a family's best friend. It can haul things, up to a full size refrigerator! But it also moves people in the best possible manner, with comfort and quiet. It's fully reliable, gives you peace of mind, holds value like crazy, because everyone wants it!Apr 16, 2015

I like everything so far. 3.3L V6 seams to be economical, however computer shows usually 22-25miles/ Gallon. I tested Honda Odyssey and that car did 28miles/gallon on highway. However Honda does not have so nice interior like Sienna.Jan 29, 2015

The Toyota Sienna is a wonderfully versatile vehicle saddled with the unfortunate label of being called a mini-van. Awful name that should be replaced with something more accurately descriptive like Sport Van or, like the old days, Quadra Van. Because we live in the Sierra, an AWD vehicle makes a huge difference in safety, peace of mind and mobility. Go anywhere, anytime, with just about anything you want to carry. The Sienna is well suited to this duty and does it in style. Although it appears a bit ungainly due to the 17 inch wheels carrying a lot of body and glass, the beauty of the Sienna is that its form follows function. Unlike SUVs with their high blocky hoods, the Sienna's aerodynamic shape helps it achieve pretty decent mileage for a vehicle of this size. And the sliding doors deserve more respect for their practicality and convenience versus SUV's swing doors that are barely functional in today's tight parking spaces. Outside of this DNA common to vans, Toyota has evolved the Sienna into a comfortable place to spend time driving around town or on long road trips. It is quiet, the ride is passenger car like and the interior fit and finish is of high enough quality that it feels like you're driving a vehicle in a different class. Many thoughtful touches are designed into the van to promote suitability for many different life styles. This is evident in the 60/40 split third seat that folds flat into the floor, the adjustable/removable captains chairs in the second row and the myriad of bins and storage spaces. Somebody in Toyota's marketing and design group must have conducted a survey with a thirsty demographic, because cup holders abound in the Sienna. I counted 16 and they are as entertaining to find as Waldo. Overall, the Toyota Sienna equipped with AWD has enough power, handling ability, maneuverability, flexibility, and creature comforts to earn more respect than it gets. It is truly the original Sport Utility Vehicle and one of these days, after the impractical eats into the cachet of pretender SUVs, manufacturers might want to consider the next evolution of a Sienna that is more performance oriented, stylish, and named appropriately.Oct 16, 2014

I like the comfort, power, reliability, utility and looks. So far, 106,000 miles and absolutely no mechanical problems at all. A very durable, well built car that handles extremely well on the open road and in the mountains. Even some moderate off roading. Plenty of room for passengers and hauling stuff, even large appliances, lumber, etc.Oct 10, 2014

There isn't a thing I disliked about this car. It has a large amount of space in the interior for up to seven passengers, including the driver. The car rides smoothly and comfortably. This model Toyota was not expensive to maintain, which makes it an economical family vehicle.Sep 21, 2014

Only owned it two months but love the ride and the quiet. It replaces the need for two previous cars. The side doors are very useful for exiting in tight places. I can make a large bed in the back and my dog approves.
I now have one well built car that I use for all my transportation needs including hauling stuffJul 09, 2013

I like the look a feel of this car. It was comfortable and the kids seemed comfortable on long trips. There haven't been any concerns with the vehicle other than normal maintenance issues. We have driven it a lot. It has 142,300 miles on it so replacing the air conditioning and O2 sensor seem reasonable. Overall a very good car and safe too.Mar 20, 2013

Great vehicle for travel for bigger families. Had problems with rattling doors and almost considered a lemon cause no dealer could fix it. Finally had a specialist fix it but what a hassle. Over a 100k miles on it and still love it. Feb 06, 2012

There isn't much I don't love about my Sienna. I'm only selling it because I need the money. It's one of the best cars I've ever owned. Super safe, which is VERY important to me, so comfortable to ride in (doesn't feel trucky), super quiet, gobs of room, love the third row and that you can take out all the seats and make it a cargo van if you'd like. I've kept up with the maintenance and so I think that's why the car will last and last. It's such a great car. Nov 10, 2011

This is a Great Looking van with ALL the bells and whistles! Very comfortable to ride and drive. I like the captain leather seats and the warmers sure are nice in the winter months. I drove our van to Chicago a couple of times (14hrs), to the mountains (3hrs), the beach (4hrs), and to Disney (15hrs) and never did I get tired of driving. Each of those trips I had my 3 children with me and no other driver - we had a blast! The kids had lots of room in the back to chill out and watch movies the whole time. We have 2 real nice head phones that come in handy when the driver doesn't want to listen to the movie. The kids wear the headphones and I listen to my CDs or the Radio. It's all good! Everyone's happy in this fabulous and SAFE Toyota Sienna XLE Limited!Aug 04, 2011

This car goes anywhere at any time. It's comfortable. The AWD model handles super! It may look like a "soccer mom's car" but this thing can accelerate when you need to. It feels like luxury. Gas mileage's good. Great buy!Jan 19, 2011

It's a decent family van. It holds kids, junk and gets us
there reasonably. Mileage is around 21 in mixed driving.
We do seem to sideswipe things with amazing regularity,
but that's not really the fault of the car.
Isn't this 40 words yet?

My wife loves it. Kids love it. I don't mind driving it. It handles like a car and has a nice tight turning radius and sips gas. Has 2 screens for DVD's, great centre stack layout. Got the side power sliding door defects fixed and covered by Toyota Canada. Easy and cheap to maintain.Apr 02, 2008

The 2004 Sienna van rides and drives great. Very few problems. I will buy another Toyota.Jun 20, 2007
Car will not start. Cranks all day but never fires. Have checked fuel, thats good. Checked spark, thats good. Intake system no problems. Took to dealer they said broken timing belt. Pulled front of motor down wasnt broken they then changed story to it jumped timing. Replaced timing belt and water pump. Also replaced crank sensor. Still will not fire. Im out of ideas at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My buddy hooked up the battery wrong when replacing it now I don't have anything we got to jump took it to get gas and the when you press on the gas pedal you get a little bit of acceleration it won't come out of first and when you initially it's stuck in park and you have to bypass it with the little button there next to the shifter and my brake lights don't work nothing works I need help please somebody help
My 2004 Toyota Sienna is leaking water on the driver side floor after it rains. Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions on how the water is getting into the cabin on soaking the driver side floor?
I was hit by a hit and run driver on the right side that destroyed my running board on my Toyota Sienna xle. Can anyone tell me where to get one without spending the $2,000.00 the dealer told me I'd have to pay to get a new set? Thank you. Single Mom of 2 autistic boys
