How much does the 2023 Toyota Prius cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 956 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Toyota Prius a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Toyota Prius earns a 4.3/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

It stands out as a more appealing hybrid than earlier Priuses, with sleeker styling and a much stronger driving experience than the old efficiency-first formula. The broader appeal also comes from a solid set of standard safety features and a reasonable amount of interior tech and comfort equipment, so you get more than just fuel economy.

The trade-offs are that the price is up significantly versus the previous model, the engine can drone loudly when pushed hard, and interior space and cargo room have decreased.

With 36.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Toyota Prius reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 Prius is presented as a dependable hybrid with a strong reputation for efficiency and everyday usefulness, and the expert review emphasizes that it feels more complete than earlier versions. Its powertrain is described as more athletic and eager than before, while still preserving the fuel-sipping character that made the Prius famous.

The review also notes that the new model feels comfortable and engaging in daily driving, with road and wind noise well controlled except when you push hard for acceleration. That said, hybrid ownership can still bring some long-term cost considerations, so you should pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition before buying used.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Prius?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should start with a vehicle history report, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks for signs of prior damage, uneven wear, and any signs of hard use. Focus on the condition of the cabin, cargo area, and drivetrain behavior, since the model’s value depends on getting the newer design and stronger powertrain without hidden issues.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE brings the core safety and tech package, while the XLE adds 19-inch wheels, faux leather seats, a power driver’s seat, wireless smartphone charging, front and rear parking sensors, and a smart key. The Limited adds the larger screen, glass roof, JBL sound system, ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, power tailgate, and Digital Key.
• Powertrain: You get a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a more powerful electric motor and lithium-ion battery. Front-wheel-drive models make 194 total horsepower, while all-wheel-drive models make 196 total horsepower.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on all trims and includes radar-based adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-departure alerts with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, and Proactive Driving Assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts is also included, while Advanced Park is available on the Limited.
• Infotainment: The LE and XLE come with an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The XLE can be optioned with a 12.3-inch screen, and that larger display is standard on the Limited. All trims also get a 7-inch digital instrument cluster.
• Fuel efficiency: The model is described as fuel-sipping, but no MPG figure is stated in the relevant data fields.

Which 2023 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota Prius is offered in 3 trim levels: LE, XLE, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the core Prius experience with the standard safety suite, 17-inch alloy wheels, and the 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is the value play if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the extra comfort and convenience features.
• XLE: This is the trim we would opt for since it adds the most useful upgrades for everyday use, including 19-inch wheels, faux leather seats, a power driver’s seat, wireless smartphone charging, front and rear parking sensors, and a smart key. It is the best-value choice for most shoppers.
• Limited: This is the fully loaded version, adding the larger screen, fixed glass roof, JBL sound system, ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, power tailgate, and Digital Key. It makes sense if you want the most comfort and convenience features and are willing to pay for them.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on all trims, and Advanced Park is available on the Limited.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Prius?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 956 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,061, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota Prius's resale value?

The current average of $27,473 sits slightly below last year's $27,670.

That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable rather than volatile, which is usually a good sign for future resale planning. If you buy at a sensible price and keep the car in strong condition, you should be able to avoid a steep value drop in the near term.

The Prius also benefits from strong buyer interest tied to its efficiency, updated styling, and broad appeal as a hybrid daily driver. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota Prius safe?

The 2023 Prius has not been crash-tested by IIHS or NHTSA yet.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on all trims and includes radar-based adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-departure alerts with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, and Proactive Driving Assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts is also included, and Advanced Park is available on the Limited trim.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It brings a huge jump in power while still preserving the fuel-sipping character that made the Prius famous.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $29,001, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $27,473 average.
• It adds available all-wheel drive and a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The bottom line: Choose the 2023 if you want the stronger styling and power upgrade at a lower used price. Consider the 2024 if you want the newer model-year updates and are willing to pay more for them.
