Why it stands out
The 2023 Lexus ES stands out as a luxury sedan that prioritizes comfort, quietness, and refinement over flash or aggressive performance. It is based on the same platform as the Toyota Avalon and Camry from this era, and the redesign brought increased structural rigidity, a wider stance, and an overall increase in length of almost three inches. Lexus also lowered and moved the seating position farther back, which helped create additional rear-seat legroom. The styling leans more expressive than earlier versions, with a large spindle grille, sharp body creases, and a coupe-like roofline.
Under the hood, the 2023 Lexus ES offered a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 with 302 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The lineup also included the ES 300h hybrid, which combined a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor for 215 hp. Standard equipment was generous, with synthetic leather upholstery, heated power front seats, LED headlights, a power moonroof, and a full suite of safety features including adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, traffic-sign recognition, and high-beam assist.
For buyers, the appeal of the 2023 Lexus ES is its blend of comfort, equipment, and value. Available options included a Mark Levinson stereo, a head-up display, a panoramic glass roof, surround-view cameras, a power rear sunshade, triple-beam LED headlights, a digital key, and a wide range of driver-assistance features. The main tradeoff is that the ES remains tuned for smoothness rather than excitement, so it is not the choice for shoppers who want a sporty or especially engaging luxury sedan.

Downsized from BMW 540i for more comforts but still decent pop/handling. ALL main cabin features of BMW transferred to Lexus ES though some learning on new systems will be required. Great the control pad on the console has been replaced in 2023. Saved roughly $20K upfront with Lexus plus more ongoing with regular, not premium, fuel. ES hybrid would have saved even more ongoing but I was not ready to take that drastic of a performance drop yet.

Is the 2023 Lexus ES a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. The 2023 Lexus ES is positioned as a luxury sedan that prioritizes comfort, quietness, and refinement over flash or aggressive performance, and it adds a roomy rear seat, generous standard equipment, and a value-focused appeal. If you want a calm, well-equipped sedan rather than something sporty, this model year fits that use case well. 42.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Lexus ES reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2023 Lexus ES is described as a comfort-first luxury sedan with a quiet cabin, refined road manners, and a strong emphasis on everyday usability. It also comes with a broad set of standard safety features, which supports its appeal for buyers who want a low-stress ownership experience. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about excitement and more about making sure the car has been maintained well and hasn’t picked up hidden wear from prior use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Lexus ES?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still review the history report carefully and confirm there are no accident, title, or odometer issues before you commit. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the cabin, electronics, tires, brakes, and suspension so you can judge whether the car still feels as refined as it should. Focus on overall condition, because a luxury sedan like this is best when the interior, controls, and ride quality all remain in excellent shape.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Lexus ES?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 42.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,140 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.85% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 86.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $36,688, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Lexus ES's resale value?
The current average of $38,751 sits slightly above last year's $38,046.
That price movement suggests the market has held up reasonably well for this model year, which is a positive sign if you plan to sell later. A stable-to-rising average price can help support future resale value, especially when demand remains steady and shoppers continue to see the ES as a comfort-first luxury sedan. The combination of strong pricing and broad appeal can make it easier to attract buyers when you decide to move on.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2023 Lexus ES or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 42.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.85% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $34,915, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $38,751 average.
- It offers a calm, easygoing luxury experience with a quieter, more traditional appeal.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of inventory, condition, and owner satisfaction, the 2023 is the better primary pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2022 is the smarter secondary path and still delivers the ES formula of comfort and refinement.
