Why it stands out
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out as a used luxury sedan that still feels thoroughly modern. In its fifth-generation form, it was described as a scaled-down S-Class with advanced safety and luxury features, and it paired that upscale character with a wide range of body styles and powertrains over the generation’s run. For buyers, that means the E-Class has long offered the kind of comfort, space, and prestige that make it a benchmark in the mid-size luxury class.
What makes the 2023 model especially appealing is how much equipment and refinement it brings. The generation’s standard equipment was lavish, with electric adjustment for the steering wheel and front seats, a rear-view camera, satellite navigation, LED headlamps, and a wealth of driver assistance safety features. It also had a luxurious, high-tech interior feel, and most versions used two side-by-side 12.3-inch display screens. The model range for this generation was broad, with rear-wheel drive and 4Matic all-wheel drive both available on some versions, and Mercedes-AMG models adding serious performance to the lineup.
There are a few tradeoffs to keep in mind. The E-Class has never been cheap, even by class standards, and some owners have reported juddering brakes and glitchy infotainment systems. The generation is also known for a potential fault with early E300 models that could lead to a cracked piston, so condition and maintenance history matter. Even so, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class remains attractive because it combines luxury, technology, and a strong reputation for comfort in a package that still feels current.

How much does the 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $47,884 |
| Year-Round Low | $47,884 |
| Year-Round High | $54,671 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $54,685 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.44% |
Prices have softened 12.44% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 995 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — 5/5 is a strong user rating for this model year, and the 2023 E-Class backs that up with a luxury-focused setup that still feels modern. The overview points to a benchmark-style midsize luxury sedan with comfort, space, prestige, and a high-tech cabin, plus a broad range of body styles and powertrains. It also highlights lavish standard equipment, including electric adjustment for the steering wheel and front seats, a rear-view camera, satellite navigation, LED headlamps, and driver assistance safety features. With 38.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview also notes a few ownership concerns to watch for, including juddering brakes, glitchy infotainment systems, and a potential cracked-piston issue on early E300 models. That means reliability can depend heavily on maintenance history and how carefully a specific car has been cared for. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is ending up with a neglected example that hides expensive repair needs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 89% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with higher mileage or incomplete service records. Focus on brake feel, infotainment operation, and evidence of consistent maintenance, since those are the kinds of issues that can separate a strong used example from a costly one. If you are considering an early E300, pay extra attention to engine history and documentation.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 995 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.44% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 89.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $47,884, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $47,884 sits slightly below last year's $54,685.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For future resale, the key is to choose a well-kept example with strong documentation and avoid cars with unresolved mechanical or electronic issues. A clean history and solid condition should matter more than chasing the cheapest listing.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 89% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.44% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $39,167, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $47,884 average.
- It keeps the refreshed E-Class formula with few changes.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $54,312, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $47,884 average.
- It adds a redesign with more technology and standard all-wheel drive.
The bottom line: The 2023 is the best all-around choice if you want a modern-feeling E-Class at a softer price than the redesigned 2024. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the smarter value play, while the 2024 makes sense if you want the newest design and are willing to pay more.
