The 2022 Sienna is a hybrid-only minivan, so you get a standard efficiency-focused powertrain along with the space and practicality minivan shoppers usually want. The main trade-off is that it costs more than many rivals, and the expert notes point to that pricing premium as the biggest drawback. Even so, the combination of efficiency, cargo space, and safety makes it a strong fit if those priorities matter most to you.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Sienna?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free status is only one part of the picture. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the hybrid system, cabin condition, and signs of heavy family use. It also helps to compare trim equipment closely, since the Sienna’s feature set changes meaningfully as you move up the lineup.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base models use 17-inch wheels, while upper trims move to 18-inch or 20-inch wheels. The cabin is practical across the range, but higher trims add more upscale equipment and available comfort features.
• Powertrain: The Sienna uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid setup with two electric motors and an electronically controlled CVT. FWD is standard, and AWD is available across the lineup.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, Lane Tracing Assist, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic sign recognition. Toyota’s Star Safety System is also standard.
• Infotainment: A 9-inch touchscreen is standard, along with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM, one USB media port, and six USB charging ports. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not included.
• Fuel efficiency: FWD models are rated at 36 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 36 mpg combined, while AWD models are rated at 35 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Sienna is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, Platinum, and Woodland Edition.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the hybrid powertrain, standard safety tech, and the core Sienna experience at the lowest price. It makes the most sense if you want the best value and can live without the extra comfort and convenience features found higher up.
• XLE: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds a more upscale feature mix without jumping all the way to luxury pricing. It also opens the door to more convenience and tech upgrades, making it a smart middle ground.
• XSE: This trim adds a sportier personality and sits above the XLE in price. It suits you if you want a more distinctive look and a richer feature set without going all the way to the top trims.
• Limited: This is the step-up choice if you want a more premium family hauler with more comfort and tech equipment. It’s a good fit if you plan to keep the van for a long time and want a more fully equipped cabin.
• Woodland Edition: This trim is aimed at buyers who want a more adventurous look, and it comes with AWD only and seven-passenger seating. Choose it if you like the idea of a more rugged-looking Sienna and want standard all-weather traction.
• Platinum: This is the top-end choice, with the most upscale equipment in the lineup. It makes sense if you want the most luxurious Sienna experience and are willing to pay for it.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, so you get the core driver-assistance package even on the base trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Sienna?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,592 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.40% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 79.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $36,050, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Sienna's resale value?

The current average of $36,053 sits slightly below last year's $38,112.

That softer pricing trend suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim desirability rather than broad market momentum alone.

Because the Sienna combines strong utility with a hybrid powertrain, well-kept examples should continue to attract family buyers. Higher-demand trims and clean-history vehicles are likely to hold up better than average.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Sienna safe?

The 2022 Sienna was a five-star vehicle according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the 2021 model received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), with the 2022 model expected to match that result.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control, Lane Tracing Assist, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic sign recognition. Toyota’s Star Safety System is also standard, adding stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, and electronic brake-force distribution.

The Sienna also includes 10 airbags, multiple LATCH child-seat connectors, and a rear-seat reminder system. That combination makes it especially well suited to family duty.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds the Woodland trim for buyers who want a more adventurous look.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $34,107, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $36,053 average.
• It introduced the redesigned Sienna with a standard hybrid powertrain.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $40,287, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $36,053 average.
• It keeps the hybrid formula while emphasizing family practicality and standard safety features.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of current-year pricing, strong safety, and hybrid efficiency, the 2022 is the primary pick. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2021 is the value alternative to compare first.
