Used 2022 Toyota Highlander for Sale nearSaint Louis, MO

How much does the 2022 Toyota Highlander cost?

Prices have softened 7.98% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,578 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota Highlander earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.

You get a family-focused three-row SUV that emphasizes space, safety, and everyday usability. Reviewers consistently praise its safety, comfort, smooth ride, and quality feel, while also noting its stylish design and easy-to-use technology. The main trade-offs are a cramped third row and some complaints about the infotainment system and driver-seat comfort, especially for taller drivers.

That mix makes the Highlander a strong fit if you want a practical family hauler with a little personality rather than a flashy or sporty SUV. With 36.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s enough market activity to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to reliability, safety, comfort, and a smooth ride as recurring strengths, and drivers also describe the vehicle as quality-built and dependable. The expert review reinforces that impression by describing the Highlander as a vehicle that covers the basics well and offers a standard V6, versatile interior, and high-tech safety features buyers can count on.

Toyota also backs the Highlander with a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, which adds some ownership reassurance. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about durability and more about whether the cabin layout and tech fit your needs over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Highlander?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are common but not universal. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the third row, infotainment operation, and seat comfort, since those are the areas most likely to affect day-to-day satisfaction. It also makes sense to compare trims closely, because equipment changes meaningfully as you move up the lineup.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base L trim includes 18-inch alloy wheels, pushbutton start, proximity/remote keyless entry, three-zone climate control, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, five USB ports, one-touch power windows, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa. Higher trims add features such as LED fog lights, a power liftgate, synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a moonroof, second-row captain’s chairs, genuine leather, a hands-free liftgate, and a larger touchscreen. The XSE adds unique exterior styling, ambient interior lighting, and a sport-tuned suspension.
• Powertrain: The Highlander uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 295 horsepower and 263 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is available, and the setup is tuned more for smooth cruising and highway passing than quick off-the-line punch.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes forward collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on all but the base L trim.
• Infotainment: The standard system uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa. It does not offer wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, though a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen is available on upper trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient configurations return 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The least-efficient versions return 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Toyota Highlander trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander is offered in 6 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the value starting point if you want the Highlander’s core strengths without paying for extras. You still get the V6, standard safety tech, an 8-inch touchscreen, and a useful set of everyday convenience features.
• LE: This trim adds a smart key system, LED fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a power liftgate, making it a sensible step up for shoppers who want more convenience without jumping too far in price.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a strong mix of comfort and tech, including synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a moonroof, wireless charging, second-row captain’s chairs, second-row sunshades, and a digital instrument display.
• XSE: Choose this if you want the sportier look and feel. It brings unique styling, 20-inch wheels, a mesh grille, dual exhaust tips, and a sport-tuned suspension, with the red leather cabin available at no extra cost.
• Limited: This is the upscale comfort pick, with genuine leather, heated and ventilated front seats, acoustic noise-reducing windows, a wall-style power outlet, a hands-free liftgate, and standard JBL audio.
• Platinum: Go here if you want the most features, including adaptive headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree parking camera, heated second-row seats, a rearview camera mirror, and the larger 12.3-inch touchscreen.

All but the base L trim include blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Highlander?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,578 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.98% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $32,142, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Highlander's resale value?

The current average of $32,142 sits slightly below last year's $34,928.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now but may temper short-term resale upside if you plan to sell soon. For future sellers, the current trend means you should expect value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim rather than broad market momentum alone. Well-equipped trims and clean-history examples should hold up better than higher-mileage or heavily used versions.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander safe?

The Highlander comes standard with the Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver-assistance features.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

That standard suite includes forward collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on all but the base L trim, while front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking monitor, a head-up display, and adaptive headlights are available or reserved for upper trims.

The lane-departure warning and lane-keeping systems are described as very active, and the lane centering can feel abrasive in some situations. That means you may want to test the driver-assistance behavior yourself before buying, especially if you do a lot of highway commuting.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines a standard V6, versatile interior, and standard safety features in a family-focused package.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $29,674, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $32,142 average.
• It emphasizes comfort, space, and safety with strong name recognition.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the Highlander’s core family-friendly strengths.
