How much does the 2022 Toyota Highlander cost?

Prices have softened 6.67% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,576 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota Highlander earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise its safety, comfort, and smooth ride, and they also like its quality and stylish design. That lines up with the Highlander’s family-focused role: it’s built to be practical, versatile, and easy to live with.

The main trade-offs are a cramped third row and an infotainment system some owners find outdated. Even so, the overall package fits you well if you want a three-row SUV that emphasizes everyday usability over flash. With 37.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still decent market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for safety, comfort, and overall quality. The expert review also describes the Highlander as a competent, reliable family SUV that covers the basics well, which reinforces its reputation for long-term dependability.

Toyota backs the Highlander with a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, which adds some ownership reassurance. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical drama and more about choosing a well-kept example with the features and condition you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Highlander?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize an inspection that checks the third row, infotainment operation, and seat comfort, since those are the areas most likely to affect day-to-day satisfaction. Focus on overall condition and feature content, because trim differences are meaningful on this model.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base L trim includes 18-inch alloy wheels, pushbutton start, proximity/remote keyless entry, three-zone climate control, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, five USB ports, one-touch power windows, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa. Higher trims add features like LED fog lights, a power liftgate, synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a moonroof, wireless charging, second-row captain’s chairs, and upscale audio and comfort upgrades.
• Powertrain: The Highlander uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 295 horsepower and 263 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. It’s tuned more for smooth cruising and highway passing than quick off-the-line punch.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes forward collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on all but the base L trim.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and a WiFi hotspot. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not included, though a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen is available on upper trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient configurations return 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The least-efficient versions return 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Toyota Highlander trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander is offered in 6 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the value starting point, and it already gives you a strong equipment list with the core safety and tech features most shoppers want. If you want the lowest entry price and can live without extras like blind-spot monitoring, this is the trim to start with.
• LE: This trim adds useful everyday upgrades such as LED fog lights, a smart key system on the door handles, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a power liftgate. It’s a sensible step up if you want more convenience without jumping too far in price.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a lot of comfort and convenience gear, including synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, wireless device charging, a power moonroof, second-row captain’s chairs, and a digital instrument display.
• XSE: Choose this if you want the sportier look and feel, since it adds unique exterior styling, 20-inch wheels, a large mesh grille, dual exhaust tips, ambient lighting, and a sport-tuned suspension. It’s the right pick if style matters more than pure value.
• Limited: This is the upscale choice, with genuine leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, acoustic noise-reducing windows, a hands-free power liftgate, and standard JBL audio. It suits you if you want a more premium family hauler.
• Platinum: Go here if you want the most features, including adaptive headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree parking camera, heated second-row seats, a rearview camera mirror, and the larger 12.3-inch touchscreen.

Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on all but the base L trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Highlander?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,576 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.67% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 79.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $31,952, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Highlander's resale value?

The current average of $31,952 sits slightly below last year's $34,236.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive resale environment if prices continue to normalize. If you buy at a favorable number and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned when it’s time to sell. The Highlander’s broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander safe?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard, and it includes forward collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on all but the base L trim, while upper trims can add front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking monitor, a head-up display, and adaptive headlights.

One caveat is that the lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist systems can feel very active, and the lane centering can be abrasive in some situations. If you’re sensitive to intrusive driver-assistance tuning, that’s worth checking during your test drive.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.67% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the V6, standard safety tech, and a broad trim range that lets you tailor the SUV to your needs.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $29,317, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $31,952 average.
• It emphasizes safety, comfort, and a familiar family-SUV formula.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-year value story, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter budget alternative, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
