CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Toyota Camry
overall

Summary
With 348 currently listed for sale near Baltimore, MD and an average price of $22,211.00, 35.6% of 2022 Toyota Camrys for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Toyota Camry 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
100.0% of 2022 Camry models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Toyota Camry stands out as a straightforward choice for buyers who want a roomy, reliable, efficient, safe, and affordable car. It also has broad appeal because Toyota sold more than 310,000 Camrys in 2021, making it the third best-selling vehicle of that year that was not a pickup truck. For shoppers who like its styling, the Camry’s design is part of the package: if you like the way the 2022 Toyota Camry looks, you’ll likely like most other things about it.
What makes the 2022 Toyota Camry especially appealing is the mix of strengths it brings to the table. It offers an available V6 engine, standard advanced safety features, and excellent value for money. Owners also praise its reliability, fuel efficiency, stylish design, comfortable interior, and value. At the same time, it is not without drawbacks: the technology is described as outdated, the TRD trim does not feature a folding rear seat, and some drivers feel the four-cylinder engine lacks power.

I absolutely love the features of my car. The push start, sunroof, heated seats, heated steering wheel, and Apple CarPlay are all fantastic. For the value, the car is a great choice. Being a Toyota, its built to last and is also very fuel-efficient. Both the exterior and interior are incredibly clean, which adds to its appeal. That said, there are a couple of things I wish were different. I’d love if the car had memory seats, and the display screen could be a bit more modern, especially compared to the ones in the Toyota Highlanders. Another small inconvenience is that, unlike the Highlanders where Apple CarPlay connects wirelessly through Bluetooth, my car requires the phone to be plugged in for CarPlay to work. While this isnt a huge issue, it would be more convenient if it were wireless like in the Highlanders. Overall, it’s a really cute car and an amazing choice for a first car. Im really happy with it!

Smooth ride on the highway with great mpg. The shifting is a little hotter than I'm used to but you get used to it pretty quickly. The only thing it's missing is a physical pause/play button. Has all the controls except that one.

Great car. Like the styling on the outside which was a big reason. Most important though is reliability and safety.

Is the 2022 Toyota Camry a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Toyota Camry earns a 4.88/5 user rating, and our experts rate it 7.17/10 overall. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, fuel efficiency, stylish design, comfortable interior, and value for money. That lines up well with the Camry’s broad appeal as a roomy, reliable, efficient, safe, and affordable sedan.
The main trade-offs are that some drivers want more advanced features like wireless Apple CarPlay, and the four-cylinder engine can feel short on power. The overview also points to a technology setup that feels dated, so you should expect a car that leans more practical than cutting-edge.
For shoppers who want a mainstream sedan that does the basics well, the Camry’s mix of comfort, value, and safety makes a strong case. 26.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still opportunities to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Toyota Camry reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback repeatedly points to reliability, and it also describes the Camry as dependable, trouble-free, and a car you can count on over the long term. That kind of language matters because it suggests the ownership experience is built around consistency rather than surprises.
Toyota also frames the Camry as a comfortable, affordable, reliable, safe, and efficient family car, which reinforces its reputation for everyday dependability. The cost-effectiveness notes add that it comes with complimentary scheduled maintenance for the first two years of ownership.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the model’s core durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn hard.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Camry?
At 71.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because accident history is common enough to matter here, condition should carry extra weight in your decision.
Pay close attention to how the car’s features work in real use, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim or sportier example. A thorough test drive should also confirm that the cabin, controls, and driver-assistance systems behave the way you expect.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Camry TRD stands out with an aerodynamic body kit, matte-black 19-inch wheels, red brake calipers, red accent stripes and badges, and a more aggressive exterior look. It also has an unusual interior treatment, but it is based on the SE trim, so you should not expect the more upscale feel of the XSE V6.
- Powertrain: You can choose a four-cylinder engine, a V6 engine, or a gas-electric hybrid powertrain. The TRD uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the TRD but optional on LE and SE.
- Infotainment: The TRD comes with a standard 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and SiriusXM satellite radio. A 9-inch touchscreen is available, but dynamic connected navigation and voice recognition are not offered in this trim.
- Fuel efficiency: The TRD is rated at 25 mpg combined, and Toyota says the hybrid powertrain can deliver more than 50 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2022 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?
The 2022 Toyota Camry is offered in 13 trim levels: LE, SE, XLE, XSE, TRD, and SE Hybrid.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the value-oriented starting point, and it makes sense if you want the Camry’s core strengths without paying for extra styling or performance. It gets the standard safety package and the practical everyday setup that defines the model.
- SE: This is the trim to consider if you want a more engaging look and feel without jumping to the sportier specialty models. It also serves as the base for the TRD, which helps explain why it can be the best-value path for shoppers who want a little more personality.
- XLE: Choose this if you want a more upscale Camry experience and are willing to pay for it. It sits above the mainstream trims and is aimed at buyers who care more about comfort and refinement than sporty character.
- XSE: This is the most premium-looking mainstream choice and is the trim to target if style matters most. It sits near the top of the lineup and is the one to compare if you want a more upscale appearance without going all the way to the TRD.
- TRD: This is the enthusiast pick, with the 3.5-liter V6, track-tuned suspension, bigger brakes, summer performance tires, and aggressive bodywork. It suits you best if you want the strongest performance character in the lineup and can live with its compromises, including the lack of a folding rear seat and the more basic SE-based interior.
Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the TRD, but it is optional on LE and SE.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Camry?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting a fire sale.
- Deal availability: 26.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,312 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.73% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 71.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,387.89, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Toyota Camry's resale value?
The current average of $23,489 sits slightly below last year's $24,148.
That softer pricing suggests the Camry is currently more buyer-friendly than seller-friendly, which can help you if you’re shopping now. For a future seller, it means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim appeal rather than on market momentum alone.
The good news is that the Camry’s reputation for reliability, safety, and value should continue to support demand. Well-kept examples should remain easier to move than less cared-for ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Toyota Camry safe?
It earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS and five-star ratings in every single evaluation the NHTSA performs.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard on every 2022 Camry and includes adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance, which together create a hands-on semi-autonomous highway-driving function. Safety Connect is also standard and includes automatic collision notification, an emergency assistance button, roadside assistance access, and a stolen vehicle locator.
Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the TRD and optional on LE and SE. One caveat is that the lane-keeping and adaptive cruise systems can feel overly assertive at times, especially on roads with changing lane markings or curves.
Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 26.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 71.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.73% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines an available V6, standard advanced safety features, and strong value in a way that suits practical shoppers.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $21,786, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,489 average.
- It offers more choices, including three powertrains, six trim levels, and available AWD.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2022 if you want the stronger current-market mix of value, safety, and owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the better price-first alternative and still gives you a broad set of Camry strengths.
