CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Toyota Camry
overall

Summary
With 4,447 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,663.00, 31.1% of 2022 Toyota Camrys for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Toyota Camry 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
71.5% of 2022 Camry models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Toyota Camry stands out as a straightforward choice for buyers who want a roomy, reliable, efficient, safe, and affordable car. It also has broad appeal because Toyota sold more than 310,000 Camrys in 2021, making it the third best-selling vehicle of that year that was not a pickup truck. For shoppers who like its styling, the Camry’s design is part of the package: if you like the way the 2022 Toyota Camry looks, you’ll likely like most other things about it.
What makes the 2022 Toyota Camry especially appealing is the mix of strengths it brings to the table. It offers an available V6 engine, standard advanced safety features, and excellent value for money. Owners also praise its reliability, fuel efficiency, stylish design, comfortable interior, and value. At the same time, it is not without drawbacks: the technology is described as outdated, the TRD trim does not feature a folding rear seat, and some drivers feel the four-cylinder engine lacks power.

I absolutely love the features of my car. The push start, sunroof, heated seats, heated steering wheel, and Apple CarPlay are all fantastic. For the value, the car is a great choice. Being a Toyota, its built to last and is also very fuel-efficient. Both the exterior and interior are incredibly clean, which adds to its appeal. That said, there are a couple of things I wish were different. I’d love if the car had memory seats, and the display screen could be a bit more modern, especially compared to the ones in the Toyota Highlanders. Another small inconvenience is that, unlike the Highlanders where Apple CarPlay connects wirelessly through Bluetooth, my car requires the phone to be plugged in for CarPlay to work. While this isnt a huge issue, it would be more convenient if it were wireless like in the Highlanders. Overall, it’s a really cute car and an amazing choice for a first car. Im really happy with it!

Smooth ride on the highway with great mpg. The shifting is a little hotter than I'm used to but you get used to it pretty quickly. The only thing it's missing is a physical pause/play button. Has all the controls except that one.

Great car. Like the styling on the outside which was a big reason. Most important though is reliability and safety.

Is the 2022 Toyota Camry a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Toyota Camry earns a 4.88/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating.
The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners repeatedly praise its reliability, fuel efficiency, and stylish design, and they also value the comfortable interior and strong overall value. The Camry’s broad appeal comes through in its straightforward, roomy, efficient, safe, and affordable character, which makes it easy to recommend if you want a practical midsize sedan. The main trade-offs are that some drivers want more advanced tech and some find the four-cylinder engine underpowered.
There are 30.5% good or great deals in the market, so you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Toyota Camry reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners describe it as reliable, fuel-efficient, and a car they feel good about keeping for the long haul. The expert evaluation also frames it as a comfortable, affordable, reliable, safe, and efficient family car, which reinforces the sense that it is built for dependable everyday use. Toyota also includes complimentary scheduled maintenance for the first two years of ownership, which helps reduce early ownership costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is buying a car that has been poorly maintained or heavily used, so condition and service history matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Camry?
At 71.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with a sportier setup. Focus on overall condition, signs of uneven wear, and whether the car’s equipment and driver-assistance features work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base setup gets standard heated side mirrors and dual-zone automatic climate control on most trims, but the TRD is the exception for climate control. The TRD also stands apart with its performance-focused appearance and equipment, while the base-oriented versions are more conventional.
- Powertrain: You can choose a four-cylinder engine, a V6 engine, or a gas-electric hybrid powertrain that can deliver more than 50 mpg in combined driving. The V6 is the standout for stronger acceleration, while the four-cylinder is the one some drivers find lacking in power.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the TRD but optional on LE and SE.
- Infotainment: The standard screen is 7 inches, and it includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and SiriusXM satellite radio. A 9-inch touchscreen is available, but the model does not offer dynamic connected navigation and voice recognition technology in this trim.
- Fuel efficiency: The Camry TRD is rated at 25 mpg combined, and Toyota says the hybrid powertrain can deliver more than 50 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2022 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?
The 2022 Toyota Camry is offered in 1 trim level: TRD.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The TRD-based setup is not the most practical choice if you want everyday versatility, since it lacks a folding rear seat and leans heavily into style and performance.
- Premium/top trim: The TRD is the clear pick if you want the most distinctive Camry experience, with a V6, track-tuned hardware, and extra visual drama.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert comes standard on the TRD.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Camry?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting deep discounts everywhere.
- Deal availability: 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,418 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.61% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 71.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,395.86, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Toyota Camry's resale value?
The current average of $23,567 sits slightly below last year's $24,199.
That softer pricing can help you buy more confidently now, but it also suggests future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices continue to ease. If you plan to resell later, a well-kept Camry should still benefit from its strong reputation for reliability, efficiency, and value. Condition will matter a lot, especially because buyers tend to reward clean history and strong maintenance records.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Toyota Camry safe?
It gets a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and five-star ratings in every single evaluation the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance, which can work together as a hands-on highway driving aid. Safety Connect is also standard and includes automatic collision notification, an emergency assistance button, roadside assistance access, and a stolen vehicle locator. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the TRD and optional on LE and SE.
The main caveat is that the lane-keeping and adaptive cruise systems can feel overly assertive or occasionally misread the road, which may bother some drivers.
Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 71.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.61% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 stands out for its available V6, standard advanced safety features, and strong value.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $21,792, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,567 average.
- It remains a solid all-rounder with strong reliability and practicality.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of safety, value, and owner satisfaction, the 2022 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter budget alternative and still delivers the Camry basics well.
