What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Lexus ES?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, because accident-free status is only a starting point. A pre-purchase inspection is especially useful if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with added equipment. Focus on cabin condition, infotainment operation, and signs that the car has been used as a comfortable daily driver rather than babied.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim starts with 17-inch wheels, while higher trims add 18-inch or 19-inch wheels, and the interior becomes more upscale as you move up the range. Base models are also more limited on premium tech than upper trims.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with AWD, a 3.5-liter V6, or a gasoline-electric hybrid. The four-cylinder is the least convincing choice, while the hybrid stands out for efficiency.
• Safety package: Every ES includes Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 with pre-collision braking and pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, road-sign assist, Enhanced Lane-Tracing Assist, adaptive cruise control, and Intelligent High Beam Control. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard.
• Infotainment: The base system uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa+Lexus compatibility. Upper trims upgrade to a 12.3-inch screen, navigation, and Mark Levinson audio.
• Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder AWD model is rated at 25 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, the V6 at 22 mpg city and 32 mpg highway, and the hybrid at 43 mpg city and 44 mpg highway.

Which 2022 Lexus ES trim should I buy?

The 2022 Lexus ES is offered in 4 trim levels: base, Luxury, F Sport, Ultra Luxury.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point if you want the lowest starting price and the core ES experience, including the standard safety suite and basic infotainment. It makes sense if you value comfort and refinement first, but it is the least compelling choice if you want richer tech or a more upscale cabin.
• Luxury: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more premium feel without pushing you all the way to the top of the range. If you want the ES to feel more like a true luxury sedan, this is the trim to target.
• F Sport: Choose this if you want the sportier appearance and a more aggressive personality, but keep in mind the car still prioritizes smoothness over excitement. It is more about style and feel than real performance gains.
• Ultra Luxury: This is the trim for you if you want the most upscale ES experience and are willing to pay for it. It is the most comfort-focused choice in the lineup.

Safety content notes that every ES gets the Lexus Safety System+ 2.5, along with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

What is the 2022 Lexus ES's resale value?

The current average of $34,184 sits slightly below last year's $34,862.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also suggests the market has adjusted downward from where it was a year ago. If you plan to resell later, the current trend implies you should expect value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold up better than plain, heavily used ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2022 Lexus ES or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 39.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.95% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 combines a Top Safety Pick+ rating with a broad standard safety suite.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $30,952, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $34,184 average.
• It is a comfortable, quiet, and reliable luxury sedan with a roomy cabin.

The 2022 is the better pick if you want the stronger current-market mix of safety, satisfaction, and inventory. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter value play, especially if you find one in good condition.
