Used 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan for Sale near Connecticut

How much does the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan cost?

Prices have softened 12.11% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,389 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its comfort, safety features, practicality, spacious interior, and good fuel economy. The Tiguan also stands out as a family-friendly SUV with easy-to-use technology and plenty of cargo space, which makes it appealing if you want something straightforward and useful for daily life.

The trade-offs are familiar: the performance can feel sluggish at times, and the cabin materials are not especially polished. For you, that means the Tiguan makes the most sense if space, usability, and everyday comfort matter more than quick acceleration or a premium interior feel.

The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 37.0% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe it as comfortable, practical, and good on fuel, and they also point to safety features as a confidence booster. The expert evaluation adds that Volkswagen’s Carefree Coverage plan includes free scheduled maintenance for two years or 20,000 miles, plus roadside assistance and warranty coverage, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that some owners reported frustrations with having only one key fob, so you should check for complete keys and verify overall condition carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if it looks clean on paper. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the cabin, electronics, and drivetrain behavior, since the Tiguan’s value depends heavily on whether it has been maintained and used gently. Focus on condition details that affect daily livability, especially if you plan to use it as a family SUV.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S, SE, and SEL are the core trims, with SE R-Line Black and SEL Premium R-Line adding sporty design and equipment upgrades. The base S is the most stripped-down version, while the higher trims add more convenience and safety equipment.
• Powertrain: Every Tiguan uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and 4Motion all-wheel drive is available on most models.
• Safety package: IQ Drive is standard and includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control starts with SE, lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist starts with SEL, and automatic high-beam headlights are reserved for SEL Premium R-Line.
• Infotainment: Starting with SE, MIB3 brings an 8-inch touchscreen, faster response times, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, WiFi for up to four devices, SiriusXM 360L, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and Car-Net connected services.
• Fuel efficiency: The Tiguan returns 25 mpg in combined driving with front-wheel drive and 24 mpg with all-wheel drive. During testing, the AWD model averaged 22.6 mpg.

Which 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?

The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SE, SEL, SE R-Line Black, SEL Premium R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into Tiguan ownership and can live without the added convenience and tech of the higher trims.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the MIB3 infotainment system, wireless smartphone integration, and adaptive cruise control while staying below the more expensive trims.
• SEL: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and the added lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist, plus Volkswagen Digital Cockpit instrumentation.
• SE R-Line Black: Pick this if you want the sporty appearance and equipment upgrades of the R-Line treatment without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• SEL Premium R-Line: This is the most fully equipped version, adding the top safety and tech content, including automatic high-beam headlights, front and rear parking sensors, and the surround-view camera.

For safety equipment, note that adaptive cruise control starts with SE, lane-keep assist starts with SEL, and the surround-view camera is reserved for SEL Premium R-Line.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile deals.

• Deal availability: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,389 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.11% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,030, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $17,030 sits slightly below last year's $19,376.

That decline suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a softer pricing environment than owners did a year ago. If you buy now, you’re entering at a lower baseline, which can help limit depreciation risk compared with purchasing when prices were higher.

Well-kept examples with strong equipment and clean history should hold up better than neglected ones, especially because shoppers still value the Tiguan’s space, practicality, and family-friendly layout. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan safe?

The 2021 Tiguan earns a “Top Safety Pick” rating from IIHS in SEL and SEL Premium R-Line specification thanks to the high-performing LED headlights standard on those trims.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Volkswagen’s IQ Drive suite is standard and includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control starts with SE, lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist starts with SEL, and automatic high-beam headlights are limited to SEL Premium R-Line. Front and rear parking sensors are also not standard on the S and SE.

One caveat is that the NHTSA has not published complete crash-test results for this SUV, so you should lean more heavily on the available IIHS results and the standard driver-assistance equipment when evaluating safety.

Should I buy a 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.11% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines roomy packaging, easy-to-use tech, and strong everyday practicality.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $15,597, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $17,030 average.
• It is a rare compact crossover with third-row seating and a roomy feel.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $20,120, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $17,030 average.
• It adds updated safety technology to an already practical formula.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, space, and everyday usefulness, the 2021 is the strongest all-around pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 is worth a look for its lower entry price, while the 2022 makes sense if you want the newer safety-focused refresh and are willing to pay more.
