How much does the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan cost?

Is the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 4.73/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Technology.

Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, value for money, luxurious features, and comfortable ride and handling. That lines up with the Tiguan’s practical mission: it emphasizes cargo space, backseat room, and everyday usefulness over sporty driving feel. If you want a compact SUV that feels roomy and well equipped, this year’s Tiguan fits that brief well.

34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise centered on value, comfort, and the kind of spacious, practical setup that makes daily use easy to count on. The expert test-drive notes also frame it as a vehicle built for mainstream usefulness and everyday driving rather than a finicky enthusiast machine.

Volkswagen’s maintenance and ownership approach also helps the Tiguan feel more straightforward to live with. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the cabin’s usefulness and more about making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been cared for properly and hasn’t been worn down by hard use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan?

At 64.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, interior wear, and any signs of poor repair quality. Because this model is often chosen for family duty and daily commuting, condition matters as much as mileage. Pay close attention to how the cabin, seats, and electronics have held up, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S comes with LED taillights, integrated roof rails, power/heated side mirrors, automatic headlights, trailer hitch preparation, and a 6-speaker stereo with a 6.5-inch touchscreen and Bluetooth. The SE adds keyless access with push-button start, dual-zone Climatronic climate control, a leather multi-function steering wheel, a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, leatherette upholstery, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice control. The SEL adds remote start, a third USB port, navigation, a panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control, and a one-touch power liftgate. The SEL Premium adds ambient lighting, power-folding side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, a heated steering wheel, leather seating, a hands-free power liftgate, and a 9-speaker Fender premium audio system.
• Powertrain: The Tiguan uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and either front-wheel drive or 4Motion AWD. The expert notes say acceleration is sluggish in normal driving, and Sport mode is the only way to get anywhere in a hurry.
• Safety package: Forward-collision warning with autonomous emergency braking and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert are optional on the base S trim, but standard on all other trims. The SEL adds adaptive cruise control, while the SEL Premium adds a 360-degree camera, active blind-spot monitor, lane-departure warning system, automatic high beams, and park distance control.
• Infotainment: The SE and higher trims get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice control. Volkswagen also offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the SEL Premium adds the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit.
• Fuel efficiency: The FWD Tiguan is rated at 22 mpg city, 27 highway, and 24 combined. The 4Motion version is rated at 21 city, 27 highway, and 23 combined.

Which 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?

The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, SEL, and SEL Premium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Tiguan experience with the roomy cabin, 6.5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, and the practical features that define the model. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable adding safety tech through options.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen, heated front seats, push-button start, dual-zone climate control, and a power driver’s seat. It also brings the important driver-assistance features standard, which makes it the sweet spot for everyday use.
• SEL: This trim is for you if you want more convenience and confidence features, including navigation, adaptive cruise control, remote start, a panoramic sunroof, and a power liftgate. It’s a good step up if you plan to keep the vehicle longer and want a more premium feel.
• SEL Premium: This is the most upscale version, with leather seating, ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel, a hands-free liftgate, a 360-degree camera, and the Fender audio system. Choose it if you want the most comfort and tech in the lineup.

The safety-package gap on the base S is worth noting: the forward-collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, and blind-spot monitor are optional there but standard on the other trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,955 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.02% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,345, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $12,345 sits slightly below last year's $13,719.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at a strong price now, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger hit later. The Tiguan’s practical appeal and broad shopper interest should still support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan safe?

The Tiguan comes standard with dual front- and side-impact airbags, side-curtain airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control, and a reversing camera.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward-collision warning with autonomous emergency braking and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert are optional on the base S trim, but standard on all other trims. The SEL adds adaptive cruise control, while the SEL Premium adds a 360-degree camera, active blind-spot monitor, lane-departure warning system, automatic high beams, and park distance control.

Should I buy a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.02% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model emphasizes cargo space, backseat room, the option of a third row, and the latest in-car and safety technology.

The bottom line: The 2018 Tiguan is the right pick if you want a roomy, practical compact SUV with strong owner satisfaction and a softer used-car price than it had a year ago. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can also use the current market softness to target a well-equipped SE or a clean higher-trim example without stretching too far.
