There are 2,320 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.8/5 model, and the expert rating is 8.5/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its excellent gas mileage, spacious interior, and strong performance in different conditions. The review summary also points to a good mix of features in higher trims, along with a reputation for reliability and safety.

The trade-offs are more limited: some buyers want standard navigation and power seats, and shorter drivers may notice the gas pedal position. In practical terms, this is a strong fit if you want a compact crossover that balances efficiency, utility, and confidence in changing road conditions.

Good and great deals account for 36.3% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Toyota also includes two years or 25,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the powertrain and more about finding a well-kept example with clean history and consistent maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, because accident-free listings are not the same as problem-free listings. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on tires, brakes, suspension, and any signs of interior rattles or trim wear. It also helps to compare condition across trims, since equipment and comfort features vary meaningfully.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE is the most basic version, while the XLE Premium adds a super chrome wheel finish, a power sunroof, SofTex leatherette upholstery, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Higher trims also bring more features, but the base trim misses some of the comfort and convenience upgrades that make the lineup more appealing.
• Powertrain: The hybrid setup pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine with front and rear electric motors and a lithium-ion battery pack. It delivers 219 horsepower, standard AWD, and strong efficiency, with the electric motors helping the SUV feel lively in everyday driving.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, forward automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, automatic high beams, and road-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning are standard on all but the Hybrid LE, and rear automatic braking is exclusive to the Hybrid Limited.
• Infotainment: Toyota offers 7-inch or 8-inch touchscreens, plus Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa compatibility, SiriusXM satellite radio, Safety Connect, and WiFi Connect. The available top system adds an 11-speaker JBL premium audio system, dynamic navigation, voice recognition, and connected-service features.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA says it returns 40 mpg in combined driving, and the review also notes 39.7 mpg on a testing loop. Toyota says the hybrid can save you about 10 to 12 more miles on every gallon than the standard AWD version.

Which 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is offered in 5 trim levels: LE, XLE, XLE Premium, XSE, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, so it makes the most sense if you want the hybrid’s core efficiency, standard AWD, and safety tech at the lowest price.
• XLE: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more everyday comfort and convenience without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• XLE Premium: This is the trim to target if you want the new-for-2021 upgrades, including the power sunroof, SofTex upholstery, dual-zone climate control, and a more upscale feel.
• XSE: Choose this if you want a firmer, sport-tuned suspension and a slightly more engaging road feel.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich version, and it’s the one to consider if you want the fullest equipment list, including the available rear automatic braking and the best headlight rating mentioned in the safety notes.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning are not included on the Hybrid LE.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,320 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.45% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 80.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,737, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid's resale value?

The current average of $28,427 sits slightly above last year's $28,020.

That upward move suggests the market still values this model year’s mix of efficiency, standard AWD, and practicality. For a future seller, that’s a helpful sign because steady demand can support stronger resale performance. The current price range also shows that buyers are still willing to pay near the middle of the market for a clean example.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid safe?

The 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid earns an overall rating of five stars from NHTSA, and the IIHS gives it top marks in all assessments except for its headlights.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard, with adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, forward automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, automatic high beams, and road-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning are standard on all but the Hybrid LE, and rear automatic braking is reserved for the Hybrid Limited.

The main caveat is the headlight result: only the adaptive front headlights on the Limited get the top IIHS “Good” review. The lane-centering and adaptive cruise functions also drew criticism for being overly intrusive or inconsistent in heavier traffic.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.45% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds the new XLE Premium trim with more comfort and convenience equipment.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $26,608, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $28,427 average.
• It offers strong efficiency, standard AWD, and a roomy passenger compartment.

The bottom line: Choose the 2021 if you want the stronger current-market mix of features, demand, and trim variety. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the better value path, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
