CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid
overall

Summary
With 694 currently listed for sale and an average price of $26,287, 35.9% of 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrids for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid 4.89 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.33 / 10.
76.5% of 2021 CR-V Hybrid models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid is aimed squarely at buyers who value the practical side of ownership. It emphasizes reliability, safety, practicality, and efficiency, and the overall impression is that it is built around the “boring stuff” rather than flash. Even so, it is described as looking good enough to avoid feeling plain.
What stands out most about the 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid is how well it handles everyday driving. The ride quality is a clear strength, and the cabin is both comfortable and quiet. Those traits make it appealing as a compact SUV for commuting and family use. At the same time, it is not without drawbacks: fuel economy is described as underwhelming, the technology feels outdated, and the styling is uninspired.
Owners generally echo those strengths, especially the smooth ride and quiet cabin, and many also appreciate the abundance of features in higher trims. Some, however, have concerns about the unique gear button system and the lack of a traditional spare tire.

Wonderful vehicle. At 60,000 miles, no issues. We keep up on all service suggestions. I will need new tires soon. Only issue... The lock will engage/activate/click every time we slow down and then accelerate. Otherwise, its exactly what we wanted.

With 34.1% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid reliable?
Owners rate it 4.89/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a reliable, trouble-free ownership experience, with owners highlighting the smooth ride, quiet cabin, and confidence in the vehicle’s everyday usefulness. The expert review also describes the CR-V Hybrid as a vehicle Honda has honed to deliver on expectations with genuinely enjoyable dynamics, which supports the sense that it is built for dependable daily use.
Honda’s hybrid system is presented as a practical, well-integrated setup, and the review also notes that the CR-V is intended to be reliable, safe, practical, and efficient. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about core dependability and more about living with dated technology and the usual wear items that come with a high-use family SUV.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a vehicle history report on any listing you’re considering, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the price looks unusually strong. Focus on overall condition, because the CR-V Hybrid’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been maintained and whether the cabin and equipment still feel fresh.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The EX, EX-L, and Touring trims differ meaningfully, with the EX-L adding leather upholstery, a better sound system, a heated steering wheel, and a power liftgate. Touring adds larger 19-inch wheels, navigation, a premium sound system, parking sensors, wireless smartphone charging, and a hands-free power liftgate, so the base trim leaves out several convenience and luxury features.
- Powertrain: The hybrid setup pairs a 2.0-liter gasoline four-cylinder engine with electric assist hardware for 212 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque. It uses EV Drive, Hybrid Drive, and Engine Drive, plus Econ, Sport, and EV driver-selected modes.
- Safety package: Every CR-V Hybrid comes with Honda Sensing, including adaptive cruise control with full-stop capability, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, Road Departure Mitigation, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: The touchscreen measures seven inches, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and Touring adds wireless smartphone charging. The system does not have OTA capability mentioned here.
- Fuel efficiency: In testing, the CR-V Hybrid returned 33.7 mpg, while the review notes 38 mpg combined EPA driving and says the hybrid did not match that figure in real-world testing.
Which 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid is offered in 3 trim levels: EX, EX-L, Touring.
Here's the short version:
- EX: This is the starting point, and it gives you the hybrid powertrain, standard all-wheel drive, and Honda Sensing without the extra comfort and convenience upgrades found higher up. It makes sense if you want the least expensive way into the hybrid CR-V formula.
- EX-L: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather upholstery, a better sound system, a heated steering wheel, and a power liftgate. If you want the most noticeable upgrade in everyday comfort without jumping to the top trim, this is the one to target.
- Touring: This trim adds the most equipment, including larger 19-inch wheels, navigation, a premium sound system, parking sensors, wireless smartphone charging, and a hands-free power liftgate. Choose it if you want the most fully equipped version and are willing to pay for it.
Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 704 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.50% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 76.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $24,772, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $26,181 sits slightly below last year's $26,580.
That mild decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. The current pricing also sits within a fairly tight year-round range, which points to steady demand rather than dramatic swings.
For a future seller, that usually means you should expect resale value to track condition, mileage, and trim more than broad market movement. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should remain easier to move than neglected ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.89/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid safe?
The 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control with full-stop capability, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, Road Departure Mitigation, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. That gives you a broad standard safety package across the lineup.
The main caveat is that the review says the CR-V’s technology is not as broad or sophisticated as some rivals, and it does not offer automatic collision notification, SOS emergency calling, or safe teen driver settings.
Should I buy a 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.50% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.89/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert review emphasizes a practical, comfortable, quiet, and safety-focused compact SUV.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $23,716, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $26,181 average.
- It introduced the hybrid powertrain and standard all-wheel drive to the CR-V lineup.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of current pricing, broad inventory, and proven owner satisfaction, the 2021 is the safer all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the better value path, especially if you find a clean example with the right equipment.
