CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid
overall

Summary
With 694 currently listed for sale and an average price of $26,287, 35.9% of 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrids for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid 4.89 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.33 / 10.
76.5% of 2021 CR-V Hybrid models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid is aimed squarely at buyers who value the practical side of ownership. It emphasizes reliability, safety, practicality, and efficiency, and the overall impression is that it is built around the “boring stuff” rather than flash. Even so, it is described as looking good enough to avoid feeling plain.
What stands out most about the 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid is how well it handles everyday driving. The ride quality is a clear strength, and the cabin is both comfortable and quiet. Those traits make it appealing as a compact SUV for commuting and family use. At the same time, it is not without drawbacks: fuel economy is described as underwhelming, the technology feels outdated, and the styling is uninspired.
Owners generally echo those strengths, especially the smooth ride and quiet cabin, and many also appreciate the abundance of features in higher trims. Some, however, have concerns about the unique gear button system and the lack of a traditional spare tire.

Wonderful vehicle. At 60,000 miles, no issues. We keep up on all service suggestions. I will need new tires soon. Only issue... The lock will engage/activate/click every time we slow down and then accelerate. Otherwise, its exactly what we wanted.

The trade-offs are the underwhelming fuel economy, outdated technology, and uninspired styling.
With its compact-SUV packaging and everyday usability, it fits you best if you want a sensible hybrid rather than something flashy. Good and great deals account for 34.2% of listings, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.
Is the 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid reliable?
Owners rate it 4.89/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary highlights smooth ride quality, quiet-cabin comfort, and a sense of confidence that comes from a well-liked daily driver. The expert notes also frame it as a vehicle built around reliability, safety, practicality, and efficiency, with a driving character that meets expectations in a reassuring way. Honda also positions the hybrid as a long-haul purchase, especially if you plan to keep it for the long term.
The main ownership risk for used buyers is that you should still verify condition carefully, since a strong reputation does not replace a clean history and proper maintenance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually strong. Focus on cabin condition, electronics behavior, and signs that the hybrid system has been cared for properly. It also helps to compare trim equipment closely, since the feature spread is meaningful.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The CR-V Hybrid comes in EX, EX-L, and Touring trims. The EX-L adds leather upholstery, a better sound system, a heated steering wheel, and a power liftgate, while Touring adds larger 19-inch wheels, navigation, a premium sound system, parking sensors, wireless smartphone charging, and a hands-free power liftgate. If you want the best value, the EX-L is the trim that adds the most everyday comfort without jumping all the way to the top.
- Powertrain: Honda’s two-motor hybrid setup pairs a 2.0-liter gasoline four-cylinder engine with electric assist, and total output is 212 horsepower. The system is tuned for smooth, predictable driving, with quick off-the-line response and a comfortable ride.
- Safety package: Every CR-V Hybrid gets Honda Sensing, including adaptive cruise control with full-stop capability, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, Road Departure Mitigation, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The safety tech is comprehensive, though not as broad or sophisticated as some rivals.
- Infotainment: The touchscreen measures seven inches, and the system supports wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Touring adds wireless smartphone charging, but the interface itself is dated and slow to wake up.
- Fuel efficiency: The review route returned 33.7 mpg, while the EPA combined figure is 38 mpg.
Which 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid is offered in 3 trim levels: EX, EX-L, Touring.
Here's the short version:
- EX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the hybrid powertrain plus standard all-wheel drive and Honda Sensing. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the hybrid CR-V and are comfortable giving up the extra comfort and convenience features.
- EX-L: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds leather upholstery, a better sound system, a heated steering wheel, and a power liftgate. If you want a more upscale daily driver without paying for the top trim, this is the one to target.
- Touring: This is the most feature-rich version, adding 19-inch wheels, navigation, a premium sound system, parking sensors, wireless smartphone charging, and a hands-free power liftgate. Choose it if you want the most convenience and tech, but it is the least value-focused choice.
Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 688 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.48% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 76.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $24,775.26, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $26,387 sits slightly below last year's $26,783.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more carefully now and may limit how much depreciation is left ahead. If you plan to sell later, the current trend is a reminder that condition, mileage, and trim choice will matter a lot. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than rougher ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.89/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid safe?
It earns a five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Every CR-V Hybrid comes with Honda Sensing, which includes adaptive cruise control with full-stop capability, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, Road Departure Mitigation, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The systems are described as smooth, accurate, and consistent.
The main caveat is that the CR-V’s safety tech is not as broad or sophisticated as some rivals, and it does not offer automatic collision notification, SOS emergency calling, or safe teen driver settings.
Should I buy a 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.48% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.89/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 keeps the CR-V Hybrid formula focused on practicality, comfort, and everyday usability.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $23,974, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $26,387 average.
- It introduced hybrid power to the CR-V lineup and brought standard all-wheel drive and advanced safety features.
The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year pricing context and a strong mix of owner satisfaction, safety, and practicality, the 2021 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the core CR-V Hybrid appeal.
