CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid
overall

Summary
With 687 currently listed for sale and an average price of $26,135, 34.2% of 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrids for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid 4.89 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.33 / 10.
75.7% of 2021 CR-V Hybrid models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid is aimed squarely at buyers who value the practical side of ownership. It emphasizes reliability, safety, practicality, and efficiency, and the overall impression is that it is built around the “boring stuff” rather than flash. Even so, it is described as looking good enough to avoid feeling plain.
What stands out most about the 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid is how well it handles everyday driving. The ride quality is a clear strength, and the cabin is both comfortable and quiet. Those traits make it appealing as a compact SUV for commuting and family use. At the same time, it is not without drawbacks: fuel economy is described as underwhelming, the technology feels outdated, and the styling is uninspired.
Owners generally echo those strengths, especially the smooth ride and quiet cabin, and many also appreciate the abundance of features in higher trims. Some, however, have concerns about the unique gear button system and the lack of a traditional spare tire.

Wonderful vehicle. At 60,000 miles, no issues. We keep up on all service suggestions. I will need new tires soon. Only issue... The lock will engage/activate/click every time we slow down and then accelerate. Otherwise, its exactly what we wanted.

Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, quiet cabin, and the abundance of features, especially in higher trims. The overview also frames this model as a practical choice for reliability, safety, practicality, and efficiency, with everyday comfort as a major draw.
The trade-offs are clear: fuel economy is described as underwhelming, and the technology feels outdated. The expert review also points to uninspired styling and a cabin that leans more functional than exciting.
If you want a compact SUV that prioritizes commuting comfort and family usefulness over flash, this model year fits that brief well. Good and great deals account for 35.9% of listings, so there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid reliable?
Owners rate it 4.89/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with owners repeatedly highlighting the smooth ride and quiet cabin as part of an easy ownership experience. The expert review also describes the CR-V Hybrid as a model that delivers on expectations with predictable driving behavior and the kind of well-honed character you can count on.
Honda also positions this hybrid as a practical long-haul choice, especially when fuel prices are high. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the core mechanical package and more about making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and has no hidden history issues.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any listing you like, even if it appears clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the hybrid system, cabin electronics, and the condition of the interior and cargo-area features you plan to use most. Because some owners mention concerns about the unique gear button system and the lack of a traditional spare tire, it is worth confirming that everything operates as expected and that the vehicle includes the equipment you want.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The EX, EX-L, and Touring trims all have standard all-wheel drive, but the base EX is the most stripped-down version of the hybrid lineup. The EX-L adds leather upholstery, a better sound system, a heated steering wheel, and a power liftgate, while Touring adds larger 19-inch wheels, navigation, a premium sound system, parking sensors, wireless smartphone charging, and a hands-free power liftgate. If you want the best value, the EX-L is the trim that most clearly adds everyday comfort and convenience without jumping all the way to the top.
- Powertrain: The hybrid system pairs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with electric assist for 212 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque. It uses EV Drive, Hybrid Drive, and Engine Drive, plus driver-selected Econ, Sport, and EV modes. The setup is quick off the line and predictable, though the review notes some steady-state droning under acceleration.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control with full-stop capability, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, Road Departure Mitigation, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The review notes that the system is not as broad or sophisticated as some rivals, and the CR-V does not offer automatic collision notification, SOS emergency calling, or safe teen driver settings.
- Infotainment: The touchscreen measures seven inches, and the system supports wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also offers text messaging, SiriusXM satellite radio, and integrated Pandora internet radio, while Touring adds wireless smartphone charging. The review says the interface feels outdated and slow to wake up.
- Fuel efficiency: On the test route, the CR-V Hybrid returned 33.7 mpg, while the review also cites 38 mpg in combined driving as the EPA figure.
Which 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid is offered in 3 trim levels: EX, EX-L, and Touring.
Here's the short version:
- EX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the hybrid powertrain, standard all-wheel drive, and the core Honda Sensing safety suite. It makes sense if you want the least expensive way into the hybrid lineup and care more about the fundamentals than extra comfort features.
- EX-L: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds leather upholstery, a better sound system, a heated steering wheel, and a power liftgate. If you want a more upscale daily driver without paying for the top trim, this is the one to target.
- Touring: This trim adds the most convenience and tech, including larger 19-inch wheels, navigation, a premium sound system, parking sensors, wireless smartphone charging, and a hands-free power liftgate. It suits you best if you want the most fully equipped version and are willing to pay for it.
Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim for the core driver-assistance package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 694 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.70% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 75.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $24,772, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $26,114 sits slightly below last year's $26,565.
That modest decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, the current pricing trend implies you may not see rapid appreciation, but the drop is not severe enough to suggest a weak market. If the vehicle remains well maintained and cleanly documented, it should still appeal to shoppers who want a practical hybrid SUV with broad everyday usefulness.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.89/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid safe?
The 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard, and it brings adaptive cruise control with full-stop capability, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, Road Departure Mitigation, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Those systems are standard across the lineup, so you do not need to upgrade trims for the core safety package.
The main caveat is that the review says the CR-V’s safety technology is not as broad or sophisticated as some rivals. Even so, the overall crash-test results and standard driver-assistance coverage make it a strong safety choice in this class.
Should I buy a 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.70% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.89/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 keeps the same practical hybrid formula with standard all-wheel drive, a comfortable ride, and a quiet cabin.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $23,711, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $26,114 average.
- It brought hybrid power to the CR-V lineup with standard all-wheel drive and standard advanced safety features.
The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping target, the 2021 is the stronger pick because it combines solid inventory, a softer price trend, and strong owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the better value play, especially if you can find one in clean condition with the equipment you want.
