CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid
overall

Summary
With 317 currently listed for sale and an average price of $24,035.00, 33.1% of 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrids for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid 4.38 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
80.4% of 2020 CR-V Hybrid models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid stands out because it brings hybrid power to a nameplate that had long been absent from the segment’s electrified side. The result is a crossover that arrives with the familiarity and broad appeal of the CR-V, but with the added draw of battery-assisted efficiency. It also comes with standard advanced safety features and standard all-wheel drive, two attributes that make it especially appealing to buyers who want a practical SUV with a strong safety and traction story right from the start.
That appeal is reinforced by the way owners describe it: a spacious and comfortable interior, a smooth ride, and good fuel economy all help make the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid easy to live with. Those strengths fit the vehicle’s mission well, especially for shoppers looking for value and everyday usability. At the same time, some owners note concerns about the turbocharged engine’s oil dilution issue and the lack of towing capacity, while the technology can be unintuitive. Taken together, it is a well-rounded hybrid crossover with clear strengths in comfort, efficiency, and standard equipment, even if its tech interface and some ownership concerns may give buyers pause.

I like the car a lot. I had a Prius V and wanted to get an SUV so I could ride higher and wanted 4 WD/AWD for where I was moving (a lot of dirt roads). I read about the CRV Hybrid and how much better it was vs RAV4. It drives like a dream, very quick response, smooth comfortable ride, and lots of bells and whistles. Of course you get stuff you dont want in packages to get the stuff you do want, plus extra for the add ons. So far all my add ons have been worth the money. The car/SUV is the best priced one I have ever seen and the warranty plus extensions are the best I have ever seen. Based on the costs associated with my Prius V (same size as the CRV, just lower ceiling and wheels), the CRV will be a lot less to operate and get better mileage, plus it cost $6K less than what I paid in 2014 for a less tricked out car.

Easy to operate and a lot of information about mileage and performance available in the instrument cluster. Ride is very good and corners very well. And the seats are very comfortable.

Drives and handles great. Quality fit and finish. The deal breaker for us was the lack of a spare tire and inability to mount a hitch receiver and no towing capacity.

The suv has a much smoother ride than its competitors. The only things missing is heads up display, name brand stereo and updated infotainment center. I guess some people want seat coolers

If you find a listing below $23,917.08, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid a good car?
Generally — the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid earns 4.38/5 from owners and 7.33/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise the spacious and comfortable interior, the smooth ride, and the good fuel economy. The model also gets credit for affordability and value compared with rivals, which fits its practical, everyday-use mission.
The trade-offs are the unintuitive technology and ownership concerns around the turbocharged engine’s oil dilution issue and lack of towing capacity. In use, that means you’re getting a well-rounded compact hybrid SUV that leans hard into comfort, efficiency, and standard equipment rather than flashy tech.
Good and great deals account for 29.4% of listings, so you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid reliable?
Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its smooth ride, comfort, and good fuel economy helping reinforce that impression. The hybrid setup is also described as efficient and easy to live with, which matters if you want a commuter-friendly SUV you can count on.
The powertrain is tuned for efficiency and everyday drivability, and the expert review notes that the hybrid drivetrain delivers on-demand torque and compliant road manners. That combination supports the sense that this is a practical long-term ownership choice.
The main used-buyer risk is the reported oil dilution concern, so a careful pre-purchase inspection and service-history review are especially important.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, even when the market looks relatively clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on maintenance records, signs of prior damage, and whether the hybrid system and technology work as intended. Pay extra attention to condition and ownership history if you’re considering a higher-mileage example.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The hybrid is visually and dimensionally similar across trims, but the base setup leaves out some convenience and tech features that appear higher up the range. EX models and above add LED fog lights, while the hybrid also brings standard keyless entry/lock, push-button start, and automatic headlights that were previously reserved for higher gasoline trims.
- Powertrain: You get a two-motor hybrid system with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine, an electric generator/starter motor, and a propulsion motor. It is paired with all-wheel drive and four fixed-ratio gear sets rather than a conventional automatic or CVT, and it is rated at 212 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes automatic braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, automatic high beams, and a multi-angle rearview camera. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert start with the EX trim.
- Infotainment: The hybrid comes standard with Bluetooth connectivity, Pandora compatibility, and a single 1.0-amp USB connector in the front console. The EX trim adds a 7-inch touchscreen display, Honda Link, smartphone integration, SiriusXM and HD radio, a 180-watt stereo, and additional USB ports, while navigation, wireless device charging, and a 330-watt premium audio system are reserved for Touring.
- Fuel efficiency: The hybrid is EPA-rated at 40 mpg city, 35 highway, and 38 combined. The expert review also notes nearly 41 mpg during a 65-mile city drive, which reinforces its efficiency advantage in real-world use.
Which 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the hybrid powertrain, standard all-wheel drive, and Honda Sensing without pushing the price too high. It makes sense if you want the core hybrid experience and can live without the richer infotainment and comfort upgrades.
- EX: This is the best-value trim because it adds the most important everyday upgrades, including the 7-inch touchscreen, smartphone integration, SiriusXM, HD radio, more USB ports, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to target.
- EX-L: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay for added comfort and convenience over the EX. It sits above the value-focused middle trim and is the better fit if you care more about amenities than keeping costs down.
- Touring: This is the top trim for shoppers who want the most tech and convenience, including navigation, wireless device charging, and the premium audio system. It makes the most sense if you want the most fully equipped version and don’t mind paying for it.
Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are available starting with the EX trim.

What is the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $24,196 sits slightly below last year's $26,289.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and documentation rather than broad market momentum alone.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid safe?

Should I buy a 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.96% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It brings standard all-wheel drive and standard advanced safety features.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $26,579, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $24,196 average.
- It emphasizes reliability, safety, practicality, and efficiency more explicitly.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the stronger buy because prices have eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year and a slightly more refined ownership focus, the 2021 is the secondary path to consider.
