CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid
overall

Summary
With 317 currently listed for sale and an average price of $24,035.00, 33.1% of 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrids for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid 4.38 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
80.4% of 2020 CR-V Hybrid models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid stands out because it brings hybrid power to a nameplate that had long been absent from the segment’s electrified side. The result is a crossover that arrives with the familiarity and broad appeal of the CR-V, but with the added draw of battery-assisted efficiency. It also comes with standard advanced safety features and standard all-wheel drive, two attributes that make it especially appealing to buyers who want a practical SUV with a strong safety and traction story right from the start.
That appeal is reinforced by the way owners describe it: a spacious and comfortable interior, a smooth ride, and good fuel economy all help make the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid easy to live with. Those strengths fit the vehicle’s mission well, especially for shoppers looking for value and everyday usability. At the same time, some owners note concerns about the turbocharged engine’s oil dilution issue and the lack of towing capacity, while the technology can be unintuitive. Taken together, it is a well-rounded hybrid crossover with clear strengths in comfort, efficiency, and standard equipment, even if its tech interface and some ownership concerns may give buyers pause.

I like the car a lot. I had a Prius V and wanted to get an SUV so I could ride higher and wanted 4 WD/AWD for where I was moving (a lot of dirt roads). I read about the CRV Hybrid and how much better it was vs RAV4. It drives like a dream, very quick response, smooth comfortable ride, and lots of bells and whistles. Of course you get stuff you dont want in packages to get the stuff you do want, plus extra for the add ons. So far all my add ons have been worth the money. The car/SUV is the best priced one I have ever seen and the warranty plus extensions are the best I have ever seen. Based on the costs associated with my Prius V (same size as the CRV, just lower ceiling and wheels), the CRV will be a lot less to operate and get better mileage, plus it cost $6K less than what I paid in 2014 for a less tricked out car.

Easy to operate and a lot of information about mileage and performance available in the instrument cluster. Ride is very good and corners very well. And the seats are very comfortable.

Drives and handles great. Quality fit and finish. The deal breaker for us was the lack of a spare tire and inability to mount a hitch receiver and no towing capacity.

The suv has a much smoother ride than its competitors. The only things missing is heads up display, name brand stereo and updated infotainment center. I guess some people want seat coolers

Is the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid a good car?
Generally — the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid earns 4.38/5 from owners and 7.33/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its spacious and comfortable interior, smooth ride, and good fuel economy. They also value its affordability and the way it compares favorably on value against rivals. In practical terms, that makes it a strong fit if you want an easy-to-live-with compact SUV that emphasizes comfort and efficiency.
The trade-offs are worth weighing, though: the technology can be unintuitive, and some owners raise concerns about the turbocharged engine’s oil dilution issue and the lack of towing capacity. For shoppers who want a practical hybrid SUV with broad everyday appeal, the overall package still lands well. Good and great deals account for 33.5% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid reliable?
Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with repeated praise for its smooth ride, comfort, and good fuel economy. That kind of consistency matters when you’re trying to count on a used SUV for regular commuting and family duty.
The expert evaluation also reinforces the CR-V Hybrid’s practical, easygoing character, with strong efficiency and a well-rounded driving experience that supports long-term usability. If you’re shopping used, the main ownership risk to watch is whether a specific vehicle has been affected by the engine concerns some owners mention, so a careful history check and inspection matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a vehicle-by-vehicle review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on overall condition, maintenance records, and any signs of prior damage or neglected upkeep. Since owner feedback mentions possible engine-related concerns and tech frustrations, it’s smart to pay close attention to how the vehicle drives and whether all systems work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The hybrid is visually and dimensionally very close to the gasoline model, but EX models and above add LED fog lights, and the cabin keeps the same basic layout with a 7-inch infotainment screen and push-button gear selector. Base-trim equipment is more limited, so you should compare features carefully if you want more convenience and tech.
- Powertrain: You get a two-motor hybrid system with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine, an electric generator/starter motor, and a propulsion motor. It makes 212 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque, and it uses four fixed-ratio gear sets with a lock-up clutch instead of a conventional automatic or CVT.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes automatic braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, automatic high beams, and a multi-angle rearview camera. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert start with the EX trim.
- Infotainment: Standard equipment includes Bluetooth connectivity, Pandora compatibility, and a single 1.0-amp USB connector. The EX trim adds a 7-inch touchscreen display, Honda Link, smartphone integration, SiriusXM, HD radio, a 180-watt stereo, and additional USB ports, while Touring adds navigation, wireless device charging, and a 330-watt premium audio system.
- Fuel efficiency: The hybrid is EPA-rated at 40 mpg city, 35 highway, and 38 combined. In comparison, a comparable AWD gas model is rated at 27/32/29.
Which 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the hybrid powertrain, standard all-wheel drive, and the core safety and efficiency story. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the hybrid lineup and care most about the fundamentals.
- EX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 7-inch touchscreen, smartphone integration, SiriusXM, HD radio, more USB ports, and LED fog lights. If you want the most useful mix of equipment without paying for luxury extras, this is the one to target.
- EX-L: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay for added comfort-oriented equipment over the EX.
- Touring: This is the top trim for shoppers who want the most tech and convenience, including navigation, wireless device charging, and the premium audio system.
Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are available starting with the EX trim.

What is the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $23,974 sits slightly below last year's $26,223.
That softer pricing can help you buy more affordably now, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, the biggest advantage is buying well today so you have less depreciation to absorb. Strong demand for practical, efficient SUVs should still help support interest when it’s time to move on.

Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are available starting with the EX trim.
Should I buy a 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.58% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It brings hybrid power, standard all-wheel drive, and standard advanced safety features.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $26,387, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $23,974 average.
- It leans harder into reliability, safety, practicality, and efficiency.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the stronger buy because pricing has softened and there are still plenty of listings to compare. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2021 is the cleaner alternative for buyers who prioritize a slightly more refined ownership focus.
