Used 2021 Toyota Avalon for Sale nearPhiladelphia, PA

How much does the 2021 Toyota Avalon cost?

Prices are up 1.05% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 182 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Toyota Avalon a good car?

Generally — the 2021 Toyota Avalon earns a 4.3/5 user rating and a 6.00/10 expert rating. The model scores 7/10 across Look and feel, Technology, and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its luxurious features, smooth ride, spacious interior, comfortable seating, and strong performance, especially from the TRD version. The Avalon’s roomy cabin and upscale feel also fit buyers who want a large sedan that feels more special than a mainstream midsize car. On the other hand, the expert review points to an underwhelming base engine and outdated technology, and notes that all-wheel drive is only available with the I-4 engine.

The Avalon’s appeal is strongest if you want a comfortable, traditional big sedan with a more premium character than a Camry. There are 33.5% good or great deals in the market, which suggests you can still find worthwhile listings if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Toyota Avalon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe it as dependable, comfortable, and safety-minded, with many saying they feel good about the car’s long-term ownership experience. The expert review also highlights smooth, refined adaptive cruise control and a quiet, well-isolated cabin, both of which support an easygoing ownership experience. Toyota includes free scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles of driving.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether you’re paying enough for a large sedan whose value proposition can be hard to justify.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Avalon?

At 70.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on bodywork, electronics, and any signs of prior repair quality. Because the Avalon’s technology and safety equipment vary by trim and package, it’s worth confirming that the features you want are actually present on the specific car you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: XLE and Limited are the comfort-focused choices, while XSE Nightshade, XSE Hybrid, Touring, and TRD are the sport- and performance-tuned variants. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more equipment.
• Powertrain: The Avalon offers a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 205 horsepower for AWD models, a standard 301-hp 3.5-liter V6, and a 215-hp hybrid. The four-cylinder is efficient enough, but it is not the most exciting option.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense-P is standard and includes full-speed-range adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, while the optional Advanced Safety Package adds a surround-view camera system, parking assist sonar, and rear automatic braking.
• Infotainment: Every Avalon has a 9-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM, and Toyota connected services. The upgraded system adds dynamic navigation and voice recognition with over-the-air updates, plus a 14-speaker JBL premium sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The AWD four-cylinder returns 28 mpg in combined driving, and the hybrid can achieve up to 44 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2021 Toyota Avalon trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Avalon is offered in 6 trim levels: XLE, Limited, XSE Nightshade, XSE Hybrid, Touring, and TRD.

Here's the short version:

• XLE: This is the trim to target if you want the Avalon’s comfort-first personality with the broadest everyday appeal. It’s the entry point, but it still gives you the Avalon’s roomy cabin and standard safety tech.
• Limited: This is the best-value choice if you want the most upscale feel without chasing the sportier trims. It adds the richer interior ambiance and is the trim most aligned with the Avalon’s luxury-leaning mission.
• XSE Nightshade: Choose this if you want the Avalon’s style to lean more aggressive and blacked-out. It’s more about appearance and attitude than pure comfort.
• XSE Hybrid: This is the pick if you want the Avalon’s upscale cabin with better efficiency. It suits buyers who care more about fuel savings than extra performance.
• Touring: This trim is for shoppers who want a sportier setup without going all the way to the TRD. It fits buyers who want a more engaging look and feel.
• TRD: This is the enthusiast choice, and it stands out for adding extra performance and style. It’s the one to buy if you want the Avalon’s strongest personality.

Toyota Safety Sense-P is standard across the lineup, but the package is not the brand’s most comprehensive collection of driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Avalon?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you should shop with a clear target and be ready to move when a strong listing appears.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 182 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.05% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 70.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,559, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota Avalon’s resale value?

The current average of $27,660 sits slightly above last year's $27,372.

That modest increase suggests the Avalon has held its value reasonably well in the near term. For a future seller, that’s a sign that demand is still present, even if the car’s broader market position is less compelling than some rivals. The year-round price range also shows that buyers are still willing to pay a meaningful spread for the right example, especially if it has the right trim and condition.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota Avalon safe?

The Avalon earns an overall five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and it also receives top scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense-P is standard, and it includes full-speed-range adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard. The optional Advanced Safety Package adds a surround-view camera system, parking assist sonar, and rear automatic braking.

One caveat is that the Avalon is ineligible for a Top Safety Pick award because of poor headlight performance on lower trims.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Avalon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.05% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds AWD availability and updated infotainment features, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $27,401, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $27,660 average.
• It offers a revitalized full-size-sedan feel with strong safety and spaciousness.

The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year updates and can find a well-priced example, the 2021 is the better target. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 is the smarter value play, especially if you can find one in strong condition with the features you want.
