How much does the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?

Prices have softened 11.88% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 845 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its blend of luxury, performance, and beautiful design, along with its comfortable interior and advanced features. The E-Class also stands out for its powerful engine choices and polished everyday feel, which fits its role as a versatile luxury sedan. On the trade-off side, some owners feel it is overpriced, and the expert review notes that advanced safety features are not standard.

With four body styles, four engines, and a broad range of model personalities, it can suit you whether you want comfort, performance, or efficiency. The market also shows 33.6% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling luxury car with a comfortable interior, strong performance, and a reputation for being enjoyable to live with over time. The expert review also describes it as a practical and versatile car with a quiet, excellent powertrain choice in higher trims, which supports confidence in daily use. The cost-effectiveness notes also frame it as a car that makes more sense as a used purchase than a new one.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is paying luxury-car maintenance and repair costs if you buy a poorly maintained example.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

At 73.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection matters here, especially if you are considering a higher-trim or heavily optioned example. Focus on overall condition, because the E-Class can vary a lot depending on how it was equipped and maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is richly finished even in base trims, but the Luxury package’s softer-riding setup and classic hood ornament are no longer part of the lineup, while Sport styling is more common and more showy.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a revised 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder, electrified inline-six powertrains, and AMG variants with much stronger output; the base engine is described as underwhelming, while the six-cylinder setup is quiet and excellent.
• Safety package: Forward automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard, while other driver-assist features are optional.
• Infotainment: The car uses MBUX with two 12-inch screens, touch and swipe controls, natural voice processing, and online searches, but it does not update over-the-air and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not wireless.
• Fuel efficiency: The E53 sedan is rated at 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, while the E350 4Matic sedan returns 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway; the E450 4Matic sedan returns 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 13 trim levels: E350, E450, AMG E53, AMG E63 S, sedan, wagon, coupe, convertible, 4Matic, Luxury package, Sport package, E350 4Matic, and E450 4Matic.

Here's the short version:

• E350: This is the entry point, but the base 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder is described as underwhelming, so it makes sense mainly if you want the lowest starting cost and are comfortable with modest performance.
• E450: This is the best-value choice if you want the strongest balance of refinement and capability, since the electrified inline-six is described as quiet and excellent for a car this size.
• AMG E53: Choose this if you want the sportiest all-around version short of the V8 AMG, with brisk acceleration, rear-biased AWD, and variable-rate air suspension.
• AMG E63 S: This is the performance flagship, with a hand-built V8, 603 hp, and a much more extreme character than the rest of the lineup.

Advanced safety features are not standard, so make sure the specific car you are considering has the driver-assist equipment you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 845 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.88% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $35,644, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?

The current average of $35,644 sits slightly below last year's $40,448.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold up better than neglected ones, especially in a luxury segment where buyers are selective.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan and wagon earn five-star overall ratings from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal, side, and rollover tests, though the driver's side received a four-star frontal crash rating.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard. Other driver-assistance features are optional, so you should verify the exact equipment on any used example you are considering. The expert review also notes that some safety features are not available from any other automaker.

Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.88% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It gets a mid-cycle update to the infotainment system, engines, and exterior styling.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $29,626, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $35,644 average.
• It offers a stylish design and impressive technology.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $39,049, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $35,644 average.
• It adds standard automatic high-beam headlights and rear USB charging ports on coupe and convertible models.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the best all-around pick if you want the refreshed version of the E-Class and can live with luxury-car pricing. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2020 is the smarter value play.
