How much does the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?

Prices have softened 8.94% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,302 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, luxurious interior, powerful performance, advanced features, and elegant styling. That lines up with the E-Class’s upscale positioning as a high-end midsize luxury car, especially if you want a polished, premium experience rather than a bargain. The market also shows 36.3% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for the smooth ride, luxurious interior, and powerful performance. The expert assessment also emphasizes how calm, noise-proof, and composed the E-Class feels on the road, which supports the impression that it’s built for long-term comfort and confidence. Mercedes also includes a first scheduled maintenance visit on the house, which helps early ownership costs.

The main used-car risk is that maintenance can become expensive after the warranty period, so you should budget carefully if you plan to keep one for the long haul.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

At 58% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a long option list. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear, and whether the car’s advanced features work as intended, since this model can be expensive to maintain once warranty coverage ends.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The E-Class lineup includes sedan, coupe, wagon, and AMG versions, and the Luxury Line is available on some sedan and wagon models. Base versions are more understated, while higher trims add richer styling and more upscale presentation.
• Powertrain: The E300 uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 241 horsepower, while the E400 uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 329 horsepower. The V6 is the stronger choice if you want easier passing power and a more relaxed driving experience.
• Safety package: Mercedes includes Car-to-X Communication, Pre-Safe Sound, automatic braking, crosswind stabilization, and adaptive cruise control that can respond to changing speed limits. Some features are optional, and many are bundled into the expensive Premium 3 package.
• Infotainment: The E-Class offers Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a built-in web browser, voice inputs, and a highly configurable digital display setup. The content does not specify a screen size.
• Fuel efficiency: The E300 is EPA-rated at 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway, while the E400 coupe is rated at 20 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. The E400 wagon is rated at 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

Which 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 6 trim levels: E300 sedan, E300 4Matic sedan, E400 sedan, E400 4Matic coupe, E400 wagon, and E63 S sedan.

Here's the short version:

• E300 sedan: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core E-Class luxury experience at the lowest starting price. It’s the best-value choice if you want the badge, comfort, and tech without stretching into pricier variants.
• E300 4Matic sedan: Choose this if you want the same basic setup as the E300 sedan but with all-wheel drive for added traction. It makes sense if you live where weather or road conditions matter more than outright performance.
• E400 sedan: This is the better all-around pick if you want stronger acceleration and a more satisfying powertrain. The V6 is the standout upgrade, and it’s the trim most likely to feel worth the extra money.
• E400 4Matic coupe: This is the style-forward choice, with the coupe body and the stronger V6. It suits you best if you care more about design and presence than maximum practicality.
• E400 wagon: This is the most versatile option if you want the E-Class experience with extra cargo flexibility. It’s the right fit if you need utility but still want a luxury feel.
• E63 S sedan: This is the high-performance outlier, with far more power and a much more aggressive character than the rest of the lineup. It’s for buyers who want the most extreme version and are willing to accept the tradeoffs that come with it.

Many safety and semi-autonomous features are locked into the expensive Premium 3 package, so check equipment carefully before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,302 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.94% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,660, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?

The current average of $22,660 sits slightly below last year's $24,886.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you’re thinking about short-term resale. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the E-Class still has strong premium appeal, but depreciation remains a real factor in this segment. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold buyer interest better than stripped or heavily worn cars.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a five-star overall rating and five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and for rollover vulnerability from NHTSA, and it is rated a Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Mercedes includes Car-to-X Communication, Pre-Safe Sound, automatic braking that can detect crossing traffic and pedestrians, crosswind stabilization, and adaptive cruise control that can respond to changing speed limits. Some safety features are optional, and many are tied to the Premium 3 package. The standout caveat is that a number of the most advanced features are not standard across the lineup.

Should I buy a 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.94% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert summary says you get what you pay for, and that this E-Class is one of the finest luxury cars on the face of the planet.

The bottom line: If you want a used luxury sedan that feels richly equipped, polished, and deeply satisfying, the 2018 E-Class is a strong choice. If you’re more price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby model years for a lower entry cost, but the 2018 still offers a compelling mix of comfort, technology, and prestige.

How does the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class compare to the 2018 BMW 5 Series?

Our experts score the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 8/10 and the 2018 BMW 5 Series 8.3/10. The BMW has the edge on expert score and fuel economy, while the E-Class counters with a more luxurious feel and stronger safety credentials. If you want the richer cabin and more dramatic upscale presentation, the Mercedes is the more indulgent pick. If you want the lower average used price and better efficiency, the BMW is the more practical choice.
