CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Hyundai Venue
overall

Summary
With 375 currently listed for sale and an average price of $14,255, 32.0% of 2021 Hyundai Venues for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Hyundai Venue 4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
74.4% of 2021 Venue models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Hyundai Venue stands out as a tiny crossover that delivers the look and feel of an SUV while keeping the footprint, and very nearly the price, of a hatchback. It is described as a surprisingly competent runabout despite its bargain-bin price, which makes it appealing to shoppers who want crossover style without moving up to a larger, more expensive vehicle.
Its strengths are centered on value and usability. The Venue earns praise for impressive technology, easy-to-use technology, and standard advanced safety features, all of which help it feel more modern than its size and price might suggest. The tradeoffs are just as clear: performance is sluggish, all-wheel drive is not available, and cargo space is limited. For buyers who prioritize affordability, simple tech, and a compact footprint over power or utility, that combination is the Venue’s main appeal.

We recently purchased the Hyundai venue for my daughter. We are extremely happy with this vehicle and it offers many safety and convenience options. I would highly recommend considering and purchasing the Hyundai Venue if you are in the market for this style vehicle.

Reviewed a 2021 Hyundai Venue on May 13, 2022
A very small SUV. There is little to no leg room in the back seat. Front feels very narrow. Cargo space in the back was sufficient for the size of the car. The blind spots were a major issue I noticed while test driving the car. I also wished it had a center console between the two front seats. Felt like something was missing without these. It had nice features, Bluetooth, apple car play (android equivalent), and back up camera. Overall not a bad car for a smaller person that doesn’t intend on having any adults in the back seat.

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example. Focus on overall condition, because the Venue’s value proposition depends heavily on whether the car has been maintained and kept clean inside and out.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SEL is the best-value choice because it adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a sliding armrest and storage box, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and advanced driver-assistance systems that are not standard on the base trim. The Denim is the style-first choice with its white roof and unique paint job.
- Powertrain: You get a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT. Front-wheel drive is the only drivetrain, and all-wheel drive is not available.
- Safety package: Automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and driver-attention warning are standard. The SEL and Denim add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: An 8-inch touchscreen is standard, along with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The interface is designed for simple use, with physical controls for key functions.
- Fuel efficiency: It returns an EPA-estimated 30 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 31 mpg combined.
Which 2021 Hyundai Venue trim should I buy?
The 2021 Hyundai Venue is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, SEL, Denim.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Venue’s core value proposition: the small footprint, standard safety tech, and the easy-to-use infotainment setup. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim because it picks up the features that make the Venue feel more complete, including 17-inch alloy wheels, a sliding armrest and storage box, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, heated seats, and added driver-assistance equipment.
- Denim: Choose this if style matters most. It is the fashion-forward trim with the white roof and unique paint treatment, and it also includes the added safety equipment found on the SEL.
The safety package is standard across the lineup, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is reserved for the SEL and Denim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Venue?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.
- Deal availability: 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 377 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.52% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 75.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,349, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Hyundai Venue's resale value?
The current average of $14,049 sits slightly below last year's $14,869.
That softer pricing suggests the Venue is currently more buyer-friendly than seller-friendly. If you own one and plan to sell later, you may need to price competitively to stand out, especially because the model’s value proposition is tied closely to affordability.
The good news is that the Venue’s low running costs and strong feature content help keep it appealing to budget-minded shoppers. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Hyundai Venue safe?
The 2021 Hyundai Venue earns four-star ratings in driver-side front crash, passenger-side front crash, and rollover tests from NHTSA.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and driver-attention warning are standard on all trims, and the SEL and Denim add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. That gives you a strong standard safety package for the class, with extra coverage on the higher trims.
One caveat is that the Venue’s crash-test results are solid rather than class-leading, so you should still weigh its small size and limited mass against your daily driving environment.
Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Venue or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.52% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It combines a tiny footprint with SUV styling, strong tech, and standard advanced safety features.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $14,005, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $14,049 average.
- It offers affordable, economical small-vehicle value with commuter-friendly practicality.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, tech, and standard safety in this generation, the 2021 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is shaving a little more off the purchase price, the 2020 is the more budget-conscious alternative.
