overall

Summary
With 169 currently listed for sale near Dallas, TX and an average price of $23,518, 47.3% of 2021 Honda CR-Vs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Honda CR-V 4.79 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2021 Honda CR-V stands out because it combines broad appeal with a practical, easy-to-live-with formula. Honda’s compact SUV is one of the best-selling vehicles in the United States, the best-selling Honda by far, and the second best-selling compact SUV. It is also the fifth best-selling vehicle in the U.S., which helps explain why so many buyers keep coming back to it. Even so, the CR-V’s appeal is not built on being the flashiest or most extreme choice in its class.
What the 2021 Honda CR-V does well is straightforward and useful. It offers plenty of cargo space, standard advanced safety features, and excellent value for money. Owners also praise its spacious and comfortable interior, along with its excellent fuel economy. At the same time, the CR-V is not the cheapest, the best equipped at the middle to lower trim levels, the fastest, the quietest, or the most fuel efficient, and its styling is described as uninspired. Some drivers also note that the engine can feel short on power during highway merging, and a few wish for better sound insulation and a larger infotainment screen.

2021 Honda CRV Touring (My Wifes Vehicle). Consistently get 32 MPG Around Town. Drives Good And No Rattles In The Vehicle. It Has All The Bells And Whistles But Would Be Nice If Honda Offered Cooling For Seats. Would Also Be Nice If Infotainment Screen Was Larger. Overall Impression After 1 Week Of Ownership Is Very Good.

How much does the 2021 Honda CR-V cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $24,398 |
| Year-Round Low | $23,313 |
| Year-Round High | $25,276 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $25,276 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.47% |
Prices have softened 3.47% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 3,738 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.
Is the 2021 Honda CR-V a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Honda CR-V earns 4.79/5 from owners and 7.83/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise the CR-V for its outstanding safety features, spacious and comfortable interior, and excellent fuel economy. Those themes line up with the CR-V’s practical, easy-to-live-with mission and help explain why so many buyers keep coming back to it.
The trade-offs are familiar: the engine can feel short on power during highway merging, and some drivers want better sound insulation and a larger infotainment screen. In other words, you’re buying a well-rounded compact SUV rather than the most exciting one.
For shoppers who want a roomy, value-focused compact SUV with broad appeal, the CR-V fits that brief well. It also shows 33.8% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Honda CR-V reliable?
Owners rate it 4.79/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to the CR-V being reliable and highly rated, with many drivers describing it as a vehicle they can count on over time. That kind of language matters because it reflects everyday ownership experience, not just spec-sheet appeal.
From the expert side, the CR-V is presented as a comfortable, capable crossover package with predictable behavior and a straightforward drivetrain. Honda also emphasizes standard safety equipment across the lineup, which supports the sense that the vehicle is built for steady, low-drama use.
If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about headline reliability and more about finding a well-kept example with the features and condition you want.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda CR-V?
At 74.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings at similar prices. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment level matches what you expect for the trim.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base LX is the most stripped-down version, with a 5-inch screen and Bluetooth connectivity, while higher trims add a 7-inch touchscreen, more upscale interior materials, and more chrome and wood accents. The lower trims are also where you’ll feel the biggest feature gaps.
- Powertrain: Every trim uses the same 190-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine and CVT, with FWD standard and AWD available. The setup is tuned for smooth, steady acceleration rather than excitement.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard on every trim and includes a multi-angle rearview camera, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, road departure mitigation, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and auto high-beam headlamps. Blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not on the LX, but it becomes standard on the EX and stays standard above that.
- Infotainment: The base LX has a 5-inch color screen with Bluetooth, while every other trim gets a 7-inch high-definition touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SMS text messaging functions. The Touring adds navigation with voice recognition and a wireless phone charger.
- Fuel efficiency: FWD models are rated at 28 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, while AWD models are rated at 27 mpg city and 32 mpg highway.
Which 2021 Honda CR-V trim should I buy?
The 2021 Honda CR-V is offered in 9 trim levels: LX, Special Edition, EX, EX-L, Touring, and the four additional trims referenced in the expert test-drive material.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the value entry point, but it is also the most basic. You get the core CR-V formula and standard Honda Sensing, yet the 5-inch screen and missing blind spot monitoring make it the least appealing choice if you care about convenience features.
- Special Edition: This trim adds a 180-watt audio system with six speakers, making it a better everyday pick than the LX if you want a little more comfort and entertainment without moving too far up the price ladder.
- EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. It also keeps the CR-V’s strong safety package intact while fixing the biggest base-trim omissions.
- EX-L: This trim builds on the EX with two additional speakers and a more upscale feel. It makes sense if you want a nicer cabin and better audio without jumping all the way to the top.
- Touring: This is the most feature-rich version, with a 300-watt audio system, subwoofer, navigation with voice recognition, and a wireless phone charger. It suits you best if you want the most equipment and are willing to pay for it.
The safety package is a major strength across the lineup, and the EX is the first trim that adds blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda CR-V?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,738 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.47% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 74.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,313, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Honda CR-V's resale value?
The current average of $24,398 sits slightly below last year's $25,276.
That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more selectively now. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim choice rather than just model popularity.
The CR-V’s broad appeal still works in its favor because shoppers continue to value its practicality, safety, and everyday usability. Well-kept examples should remain easier to move than less popular compact SUVs.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.79/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Honda CR-V safe?
The 2021 Honda CR-V earns a Top Safety Pick award from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard on every trim and includes a multi-angle rearview camera, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, road departure mitigation, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and auto high-beam headlamps. Blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not standard on the LX, but it becomes standard on the EX and remains standard above that.
The main caveat is that it did not reach Top Safety Pick+ because of lower headlight scores and the updated side crash test. It also received an Acceptable rating for LATCH ease of use.
Should I buy a 2021 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 74.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.47% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.79/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 stands out for standard Honda Sensing and a strong safety reputation.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $22,970, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $24,398 average.
- It is a polished, practical compact SUV with improved fuel economy and value.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around shopping case, the 2021 is the better target because it combines broad appeal, strong safety, and a market that has softened a bit. If your priority is saving money above all else, the 2020 is the better price-first alternative.
