Is the 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its impressive features, powerful performance, and luxurious feel, and they also highlight the massive OLED display and smooth driving experience. In use-case terms, it fits you well if you want a full-size luxury SUV with more cargo room, nearly the same passenger space as the standard model, and a strong premium feel.

The main trade-offs are its advanced safety features not being standard and its poor fuel economy. Even so, 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV reliable?

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers describing the SUV as something they’re extremely happy with and confident in over time. The expert review also reinforces that sense of durability and confidence by emphasizing its strong highway-oriented tech and composed driving character.

If you’re buying used, the biggest long-term risk is less about owner satisfaction and more about making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained properly and hasn’t been abused or neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV?

At 72.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition details that matter most in a large luxury SUV: interior wear, electronics behavior, and evidence of prior bodywork or repair quality.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Premium Luxury Platinum trims emphasize chrome styling, while Sport and Sport Platinum use blacked-out exterior accents. Even the base grade gets roof rails, power-extending assist steps, LED headlights with auto-leveling, LED taillamps, and illuminating door handles, but upgraded trims add more visual polish and available exterior equipment.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 6.2-liter V8 or an available 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel inline-six, both paired with a 10-speed automatic. The gasoline engine is standard and delivers 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, while the diesel makes 277 hp and 460 lb-ft.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front automatic braking, front and rear park assist, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian detection, rear pedestrian detection, safety seat alert, lane-keep assist, and forward-collision assist. Available upgrades include adaptive park assist, a head-up display, rear camera mirror, lane-keep assist with lane-departure warning, side blind-spot alert, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert, night vision, advanced adaptive cruise control, enhanced automatic emergency braking, reverse automatic braking, and automatic seatbelt tightening.
• Infotainment: You get a curved 38-inch OLED screen, wireless charging, NFC phone pairing, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and seven USB ports. The available 36-speaker AKG Studio Reference audio system is a major upgrade over the standard 19-speaker setup.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA hasn’t rated this model for fuel economy, but the tester averaged around 18 mpg in mixed driving, and the review notes that RWD versions are more efficient.

Which 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV trim should I buy?

The 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV is offered in 5 trim levels: Luxury, Premium Luxury, Sport, Premium Luxury Platinum, Sport Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• Luxury: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Escalade ESV’s core appeal: the long-wheelbase body, standard luxury exterior details, and the full-size space advantage. It makes sense if you want the model’s room and tech without chasing the highest-priced trims.
• Premium Luxury: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more upscale visual and equipment content while staying below the top-end Platinum models. If you want a more polished version of the Escalade ESV without going all the way to the most expensive trims, this is the one to focus on.
• Sport: Choose this if you prefer the blacked-out exterior treatment and darker wheel look. It’s the right fit if style matters more to you than the chrome-heavy luxury appearance of the Luxury and Premium Luxury trims.
• Premium Luxury Platinum: This is for you if you want the most upscale luxury presentation and are willing to pay for it. It builds on the Premium Luxury formula with more premium content and a more fully loaded feel.
• Sport Platinum: Pick this if you want the most aggressive-looking version of the lineup with the highest-end Sport treatment. It combines the darker styling theme with the top-tier equipment level.

Safety-package note: advanced driver-assistance features are not standard, so you’ll want to pay close attention to which trim and options package includes the features you care about.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and focused.

• Deal availability: 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 732 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.38% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 72.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $51,247, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV's resale value?

The current average of $51,256 sits slightly below last year's $59,173.

That decline suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to price more competitively than owners did a year ago. The good news is that the model’s strong luxury appeal, space, and technology help support demand among shoppers looking for a premium full-size SUV.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV safe?

The 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with a three-star rollover result.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Escalade ESV comes standard with front automatic braking, front and rear park assist, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian detection, rear pedestrian detection, safety seat alert, lane-keep assist, and forward-collision assist. You can add features such as adaptive park assist, a head-up display, rear camera mirror, lane-keep assist with lane-departure warning, side blind-spot alert, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert, night vision, advanced adaptive cruise control, enhanced automatic emergency braking, reverse automatic braking, and automatic seatbelt tightening.

A key caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you’ll want to verify exactly which driver-assistance items are included on the specific vehicle you’re considering. The rollover result also matters because it signals a higher rollover risk than some rivals.

Should I buy a 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 72.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.38% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out as one of the most high-tech SUVs you can buy today, with a clear emphasis on space and a better-to-drive character than its smaller sibling.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of space, technology, and luxury in this model year, the 2021 is the one to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, you can use the softened market and deal share to shop carefully and prioritize the best-condition example rather than stretching for a newer or more expensive alternative.
