Is the 2019 Volvo S60 a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Volvo S60 earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its balance of performance, luxury, and style, along with a quiet, comfortable ride and excellent handling. They also appreciate its advanced features and safety, which helps make it feel like a worthwhile investment. On the downside, the infotainment system draws criticism, and some owners want it to improve through updates.

That lines up with the overview: you get a small luxury sedan that stands out for styling, safety, and value, even if the technology and ergonomics are less polished than the rest of the package. 36% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 Volvo S60 reliable?

Reviewers also describe it as quiet and comfortable, which usually supports the sense that it is a car you can count on day to day. The expert notes reinforce that impression by emphasizing the S60’s taut composure and strong value proposition.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the core driving experience and more about whether the technology and controls have aged well in the specific car you choose.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Volvo S60?

At 73.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has any signs of prior bodywork or electrical issues. Focus on overall condition, because the S60’s appeal depends heavily on how well its styling, cabin, and tech have held up. If the infotainment or driver-assistance features matter to you, make sure they work as intended during a thorough test drive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Momentum trim comes with a panoramic moonroof, heated wiper-fluid nozzles, dual-zone climate control, a 60/40-split rear bench seat, power front seats with memory for the driver, and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The R-Design adds fog lights, power-retractable side-view mirrors, dual integrated exhaust outlets, and an R-Design steering wheel with paddle shifters. The Inscription adds genuine leather upholstery, 4-zone climate control, and the contents of the Advance Package.
• Powertrain: The base T5 uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, routed to front-wheel drive. The T6 adds turbocharging and supercharging for 316 hp and 295 lb-ft with all-wheel drive. The T8 plug-in hybrid makes 400 net hp and 495 lb-ft, can run in full-electric mode up to 31 mph, and has a 21-mile all-electric range.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, a tire-pressure-monitoring system, forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, and traffic-sign recognition. The Advance Package adds a head-up display, headlight washers, a 360-degree camera, active bending headlights, and Pilot Assist. The package is not standard on the lower trims.
• Infotainment: The Sensus system uses a large touchscreen interface, and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included. The system is described as having a steep learning curve, and it can lag or freeze, so you should test it carefully.
• Fuel efficiency: The T6 is estimated at 21 mpg city, 32 highway, and 25 combined. The T5 is estimated at 24 mpg city, 36 highway, and 28 combined.

Which 2019 Volvo S60 trim should I buy?

The 2019 Volvo S60 is offered in 3 trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, Inscription.

Here's the short version:

You still get a panoramic moonroof, dual-zone climate control, power seats, and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus the standard safety and driver-assistance equipment that helps define the car.
• R-Design: This is the best-value trim if you want a more athletic look and feel. It adds fog lights, power-retractable mirrors, dual integrated exhaust outlets, and an R-Design steering wheel with paddle shifters, while still leaving room for optional upgrades like heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and the premium stereo.
• Inscription: This is the trim to choose if you want the most upscale cabin from the start. It adds genuine leather upholstery, 4-zone climate control, and the Advance Package content, making it the most fully equipped version in the lineup.

The Advance Package adds active bending headlights, a 360-degree camera, a head-up display, and Pilot Assist.

• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.76% compared with last year.

What is the 2019 Volvo S60's resale value?

The current average of $17,846 sits slightly below last year's $19,998.

That price movement suggests the S60 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you may have less downside left than a buyer who pays closer to the top of the market. Strong condition and a clean history will matter a lot when it comes time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2019 Volvo S60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 36% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.76% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 model year marks the introduction of Volvo’s third-generation S60, bringing a fresh design and a strong emphasis on safety and value.

The bottom line: If you want the newest body style and a strong mix of style, safety, and value, the 2019 is the right place to start. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare it with nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-priced example rather than the newest badge alone.
