CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
overall

Summary
With 65 currently listed for sale near Philadelphia, PA and an average price of $25,761, 40.0% of 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrids for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid 4.38 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.5 / 10.
100.0% of 2019 RAV4 Hybrid models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid stands out as a compact SUV that blends efficiency with a more rugged look. Toyota’s summary describes it as “a Prius wearing 4Runner clothing,” and says the newest 2019 RAV4 Hybrid no longer has the Corolla-like appearance it had a year before, instead looking tougher and more rugged. That same summary also calls the hybrid version the sportiest and most cost-effective way to get a RAV4, which helps explain why it has such broad appeal.
For buyers, the strongest draws are value, style, and fuel efficiency. The expert test drive data lists excellent value for money, stylish design, and fuel-efficient among its pros, and owner feedback echoes the strong fuel economy and comfortable interior. The main drawback is technology: both the expert data and owner comments point to outdated tech features, and owners also mention that the interior can feel underwhelming for the price.

I have only had the 2019 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid for a few days. So far I can say I enjoy driving it. The space inside is good for me and my daughter. The seats are comfortable. The ride is smooth. There is good acceleration when getting on the highway. The brakes work well.

I bought this car and I love it. I was in a small Kia Niro 2020 hybrid before and though my gas mileage was better I did not feel as safe as I do in the Toyota Rav4 hybrid. When I accelerate it actually accelerates and I live in a climate with ice and snow in the winter so the all wheel drive is something I feel better about having.

Is the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid a good car?
Generally — 4.38/5 from owners and 8.5/10 from expert testing, the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid lands as a strong all-around pick. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the impressive fuel economy, comfortable interior, and performance. The expert review also backs up the value story, calling out excellent value for money, stylish design, and fuel-efficient character.

Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with buyers especially valuing the hybrid’s strong fuel economy and the sense that it’s a vehicle you can count on over time.
The expert review reinforces that impression by noting that the hybrid batteries have proven reliable after 20-plus years and several million Toyota hybrids sold. Toyota also includes the first two service visits through ToyotaCare, which helps reduce early ownership hassle.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the hybrid system and more about finding a well-kept example with the right maintenance history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?
At 70.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a full vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually strong. Focus on body condition, repair quality, and whether the cabin and tech features still work as expected, since the model’s biggest complaints center on outdated technology and interior value.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The XSE trim stands out with glossy black exterior trim, 18-inch wheels, sport-tuned dampers and springs, and a more upscale look than the lower trims.
- Powertrain: The hybrid system pairs a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with two electric motors for 219 horsepower, and it delivers strong fuel economy with a seamless around-town driving feel.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense comes standard with forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise, traffic-sign recognition, and auto high beams. Rear emergency braking is optional.
- Infotainment: The screen supports swiping and pinching gestures, Apple CarPlay is standard, and Android Auto is not included.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates it at 41 mpg city, 38 highway, and 40 combined.
Which 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the hybrid lineup and are comfortable giving up some of the more upscale touches and extras found higher up.
- XLE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it sits in the middle of the range and gives you a more balanced mix of equipment and price.
- XSE: This is the standout choice if you care most about style and driving feel, since it adds the sportier look and the sport-tuned suspension that make the hybrid feel more special.
- Limited: This is the trim to consider if you want the most upscale version and are willing to pay for the top-end presentation.
Toyota Safety Sense comes standard across the lineup, so you get a strong safety baseline even on the lower trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to find value if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 930 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 70.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,317, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $25,182 sits slightly below last year's $25,415.
That small decline suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. A steady price pattern usually means buyers still see the model as a sensible, in-demand compact hybrid SUV.
Because the RAV4 Hybrid combines strong fuel economy with broad appeal, it should remain relatively easy to market when it’s time to move on. Well-kept examples with clean history and desirable equipment should hold buyer interest better than neglected ones.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid safe?
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid earns four-star ratings in the driver's-side frontal crash test and rollover resistance, and five-star ratings for the front passenger in the frontal crash test and for front and rear passengers in the side barrier and side pole tests from NHTSA. The IIHS rated the 2019 RAV4, not the Hybrid, Good in all six crash tests and Superior for collision avoidance, but low headlight scores kept it from earning a Top Safety Pick.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense comes standard and includes forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise, traffic-sign recognition, and auto high beams. A passenger-seat cushion airbag and a driver's knee airbag are also standard, while rear emergency braking is optional.
Should I buy a 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 70.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2019 brings a tougher, more rugged redesign and remains the sportiest, most cost-effective way to get a RAV4 Hybrid.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $27,311, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $25,182 average.
- It adds standard all-wheel drive, a roomy passenger compartment, and plenty of standard multimedia and safety features.
The bottom line: If you want the better value and don’t mind the older tech, the 2019 is the smarter buy. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer-feeling package with broader standard equipment, the 2020 is the cleaner upgrade. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2019’s stable pricing and strong owner satisfaction make it the more compelling path.
