overall

Summary
With 71 currently listed for sale near Baltimore, MD and an average price of $24,499, 43.7% of 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrids for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid 4.38 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.5 / 10.
100.0% of 2019 RAV4 Hybrid models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid stands out as a compact SUV that blends efficiency with a more rugged look. Toyota’s summary describes it as “a Prius wearing 4Runner clothing,” and says the newest 2019 RAV4 Hybrid no longer has the Corolla-like appearance it had a year before, instead looking tougher and more rugged. That same summary also calls the hybrid version the sportiest and most cost-effective way to get a RAV4, which helps explain why it has such broad appeal.
For buyers, the strongest draws are value, style, and fuel efficiency. The expert test drive data lists excellent value for money, stylish design, and fuel-efficient among its pros, and owner feedback echoes the strong fuel economy and comfortable interior. The main drawback is technology: both the expert data and owner comments point to outdated tech features, and owners also mention that the interior can feel underwhelming for the price.

I have only had the 2019 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid for a few days. So far I can say I enjoy driving it. The space inside is good for me and my daughter. The seats are comfortable. The ride is smooth. There is good acceleration when getting on the highway. The brakes work well.

I bought this car and I love it. I was in a small Kia Niro 2020 hybrid before and though my gas mileage was better I did not feel as safe as I do in the Toyota Rav4 hybrid. When I accelerate it actually accelerates and I live in a climate with ice and snow in the winter so the all wheel drive is something I feel better about having.

Incredibly Reliable, as with every Toyota; Welcoming and comfortable; no matter how long the trip; Economical on shot and longer excursions; Looks simply terrific; My next RAV4 will, I hope, be a HYBRID...Cantt Lose!!!

The trade-offs are clear: the tech feels outdated, and the interior can seem underwhelming for the price. In practical terms, this is a good fit if you want a hybrid compact SUV that emphasizes efficiency and style over the latest cabin tech.
32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid reliable?
Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with strong confidence in the hybrid system and the kind of long-term durability buyers often want from a Toyota hybrid. The expert review also notes that the battery chemistry has proven reliable after 20-plus years and several million Toyota hybrids sold.
ToyotaCare includes the first two service visits and roadside assistance, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the hybrid system and maintenance history have been cared for properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?
At 70.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and signs of prior bodywork or repair quality. Because this model’s appeal depends heavily on value and reliability, a clean history matters a lot.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LE is the most basic version, while the XLE, XSE, and Limited add more comfort and convenience. The XSE stands out for its sportier look and driving feel, while the Limited is the most upscale choice. Base-trim equipment gaps matter here because the cabin tech is a weak point overall.
- Powertrain: You get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid setup with two electric motors and 219 horsepower. It delivers strong efficiency and smooth around-town driving, though the CVT and standard AWD can feel less responsive when traction is limited.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense comes standard with forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise, traffic-sign recognition, and auto high beams. Rear emergency braking is optional, so that’s worth checking if you want the fullest safety setup.
- Infotainment: The system uses a touchscreen with swipe and pinch support, and Apple CarPlay is standard. Android Auto is not included, and the maps and connected-app experience feel dated.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates it at 41 mpg city, 38 mpg highway, and 40 mpg combined. The expert review also reports 36 mpg over a mostly highway test route.
Which 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the hybrid lineup. It gives you the core efficiency and safety package, but you’ll feel the tech and comfort limitations more here than on the higher trims.
- XLE: This is the best-value trim for most buyers because it balances price and equipment well. It’s the trim to target if you want a more complete daily driver without paying for the sportier or more luxurious upgrades.
- XSE: This is the standout choice if you care about style and driving feel. It adds the sportier appearance and tuned chassis character that make the hybrid feel more special, and the expert review specifically recommends it with the Cold Weather package.
- Limited: Choose this if you want the most upscale version of the RAV4 Hybrid. It’s the trim for buyers who want the richest feature set and are willing to pay for it.
Toyota Safety Sense comes standard across the lineup, so you’re getting the core driver-assistance suite even on the lower trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?
This is a moderate market, so you should be selective and ready to move when a strong listing appears.
- Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 922 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 70.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,317, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $25,160 sits slightly below last year's $25,352.
That small decline suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is usually a good sign for future resale planning. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in clean condition, you’re less likely to face a steep value drop in the near term. The steady pricing also means sellers should still find healthy demand as long as the vehicle presents well and has a clean history.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid safe?
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests. It also earned a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS for the RAV4, though low headlight scores kept it from the higher award.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense comes standard and includes forward emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise, traffic-sign recognition, and auto high beams. A passenger-seat cushion airbag and a driver’s knee airbag are also standard. Rear emergency braking is optional, so that’s one feature gap to watch for if you want the fullest safety setup.
Should I buy a 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 70.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2019 brings a tougher, more rugged redesign and remains the sportiest, most cost-effective RAV4 Hybrid.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $27,297, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $25,160 average.
- It adds a roomier, more practical-feeling package with plenty of standard multimedia and safety features.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2019 is the smarter buy because pricing is stable and the hybrid’s efficiency and style still hold up well. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year and a more polished overall package, the 2020 is the cleaner upgrade.
