CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Dodge Charger
overall

Summary
With 1,572 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,611.00, 25.2% of 2018 Dodge Chargers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Dodge Charger 4.67 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
50.6% of 2018 Charger models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Dodge Charger stands out because it blends old-school muscle-sedan character with modern features. It is described as a retro sedan in styling and as a rear-wheel-drive muscle sedan in a world of front-wheel-drive conveyances, which gives it a personality that few modern cars share. Dodge also offered it in a host of unique trims and special editions, helping it feel more distinctive than a typical family sedan.
It is not just about image, though. The 2018 Dodge Charger comes with the latest infotainment and safety technology, and it can even be bought with all-wheel drive. Its engine range is broad, starting with standard V6 power and extending to an insane 707-horsepower V8, so buyers could choose anything from everyday strength to extreme performance. That mix of character, technology, and available traction makes it appealing to shoppers who want a sedan with more attitude than the average commuter car.
At the same time, the Charger’s appeal comes with some tradeoffs. Owners praise its sporty features, smooth ride, powerful performance, stylish design, tech features, and spacious interior, but some also mention concerns about gas mileage and the quality of materials in certain areas, including the fit and finish of the seats.

Absolutely love these line of vehicle! So versatile, and agile if i may say lol, Handles really well in the corners and the power is there if you need it. Dodge definitely outdid itself with this line of vehicles, sports wise as well as family ability! Hope to see more in the future or at least something along the same lines, being that they (Dodge) are converting more to EV’s now (Electric Vehicles). But time will tell!

If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is that condition and maintenance history matter a lot more than the badge itself.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Dodge Charger?
At 50.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with performance packages or higher mileage. Pay close attention to body condition, interior wear, and signs of uneven maintenance, since owner feedback mentions condition concerns. It also helps to compare equipment carefully, because some desirable features were optional rather than standard.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The entry trim comes with 17-inch aluminum wheels, push-button start, a 6-way power driver’s seat, dual USB ports, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Higher trims add fog lamps, heated mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, larger wheels, and more comfort features.
- Powertrain: The lineup starts with a 3.6-liter V6 rated at 292 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, with some versions tuned to 300 horsepower and 264 pound-feet. V8 options include a 5.7-liter engine with 370 horsepower and 395 pound-feet, a 6.4-liter engine with 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet, and a supercharged 6.2-liter engine with 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, front- and side-impact airbags, active head restraints, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-path detection and a package with adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams were available, but not standard.
- Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch Uconnect touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Most other trims get an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and the system is designed for simple menu navigation.
- Fuel efficiency: The most efficient version returns 19 mpg city, 30 highway, and 23 combined. The AWD V6 setup returns 18 mpg city, 27 highway, and 21 combined. The least-efficient version gets 13 mpg city, 22 highway, and 16 combined, while the most efficient V8 version returns 16 mpg city, 25 highway, and 19 combined.
Which 2018 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?
The 2018 Dodge Charger is offered in 10 trim levels: SXT, SXT Plus, GT, GT Plus, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, Daytona, Daytona 392, SRT 392, and Hellcat.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SXT is the entry point, but it lacks the extra comfort and convenience upgrades found higher up the range. It also misses the more advanced safety and tech content that appears on optional packages and upper trims.
- Sweet-spot trim: The GT is the most balanced choice if you want all-wheel drive, a larger touchscreen, and a more distinctive look without jumping into V8 pricing.
- Premium/top trim: The GT Plus adds heated and cooled seats and a heated steering wheel, making it the most comfortable everyday pick among the non-V8 trims.
- Off-road trim: None of the trims are aimed at off-road use, so there is no real daily-driver caution to flag here.
The safety package starts with a reversing camera and rear parking sensors, while blind-spot warning and the Technology Group remain optional rather than standard.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Dodge Charger?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and enough deal activity to reward careful shopping.
- Deal availability: 24.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,597 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.50% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 50.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $19,197.89, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Dodge Charger's resale value?
The current average of $19,562 sits slightly below last year's $21,856.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at a strong price and keep the car in good condition, you can reduce the impact of further depreciation. The Charger’s distinctive character and broad appeal can help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Dodge Charger safe?
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Dodge made a reversing camera and rear parking sensors standard across the lineup, along with front- and side-impact airbags, active head restraints, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The Charger could also be equipped with blind-spot warning with rear cross-path detection, plus a Technology Group that adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams.
That said, some of those driver-assistance features were optional rather than standard, so you should verify exactly what a used example includes before you buy.
Should I buy a 2018 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 24.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 50.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.50% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 model keeps the Charger’s retro muscle-sedan character while adding modern infotainment and safety tech.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $18,430, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $19,562 average.
- It delivers thunderous, attention-grabbing muscle-car personality.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price movement, modern features, and strong owner satisfaction, the 2018 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front and you mainly want Charger attitude, the 2017 is the value-oriented alternative.
