How much does the 2017 Subaru Impreza cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

With 856 listings available, you have a reasonably broad pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2017 Subaru Impreza a good car?

Generally — 4.33/5 from owners and 8/10 from our experts point to a car that fits your needs well if you value practicality over polish. The 2017 Impreza is framed as a sensible choice for you if you want a sedan or hatchback with standard all-wheel drive, affordable tech, and a practical, affordable package.

The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Its strengths are reinforced by the expert view that it is affordable, safe, and practical, while the main tradeoff is that it is not as refined as some rivals. 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2017 Subaru Impreza reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The 2017 Impreza is presented as a straightforward, practical car with standard all-wheel drive and a design aimed at everyday use, which supports the idea that it should be easy to live with over time.

The expert notes also point to a durable, commuter-friendly setup, with the CVT’s reverse-to-drive delay issue described as resolved for 2017. If you buy used, your biggest long-term ownership risk is likely to come from condition and maintenance history rather than from the car’s basic formula.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Subaru Impreza?

At 57.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important. You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can confirm the car’s structure, electronics, and drivability are all in good shape.

Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, worn interior surfaces, and any issues with the infotainment or driver-assistance systems. Because this model is valued for practicality and safety, condition matters a lot more than cosmetic extras.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: In 2.0i trim, you get a 5-speed stick shift, cloth seats, a 4-speaker sound system, and manual climate control, while Premium adds an automatic transmission and more options. Sport adds minor performance-oriented touches, and Limited can be ordered with leather, a moonroof, and upgraded infotainment.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses Subaru’s 2-liter, 152-hp, 4-cylinder boxer engine, paired with a CVT; the Sport adds torque vectoring and offers an optional stick shift. The engine is described as underpowered, but the CVT helps deliver fuel economy as good as 38 mpg highway and 28 city.
• Safety package: EyeSight is the named driver-assistance suite, and it can alert you if you stray from your lane, automatically brake in an emergency, and adjust cruise control to follow traffic. On Premium, it adds $1,395 and is bundled with blind-spot detection and steering-responsive fog lights.
• Infotainment: Every 2017 Impreza comes standard with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and the touchscreen gives you access to music, podcasts, and navigation. The system is a strong point for a car at this price.
• Fuel efficiency: The CVT helps the Impreza get fuel economy as good as 38 mpg highway and 28 city.

Which 2017 Subaru Impreza trim should I buy?

The 2017 Subaru Impreza is offered in 4 trim levels: 2.0i, Premium, Sport, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• 2.0i: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Impreza formula at the lowest cost: standard all-wheel drive, a 5-speed stick shift, cloth seats, a 4-speaker sound system, and manual climate control. It makes sense if you want the cheapest way into the model, but it is clearly the most basic version.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds an automatic transmission and opens the door to more options. It also can be paired with EyeSight, which adds driver-assistance features and, on this trim, blind-spot detection and steering-responsive fog lights.
• Sport: This trim adds torque vectoring and offers an optional stick shift, so it is the one to consider if you want the most engaging version of the standard lineup. It is still a practical Impreza, but with a little more character.
• Limited: This is the trim to choose if you want the most comfort and convenience features, including available leather, a moonroof, and upgraded infotainment. It is the most upscale version of the lineup.

EyeSight is available on the Premium trim and adds blind-spot detection and steering-responsive fog lights there.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Subaru Impreza?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly when you find a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 856 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 57.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,998, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Subaru Impreza's resale value?

The current average of $12,613 sits slightly below last year's $12,716. That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable, which is helpful if you plan to sell later because it points to predictable pricing rather than a sharp drop.

For you, that means the Impreza is not showing signs of dramatic value swings in either direction. If you buy at a fair price and keep the car in good condition, you should be able to position it competitively when it is time to resell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Subaru Impreza safe?

The 2017 Subaru Impreza is a Top Safety Pick Plus from IIHS and earns a top five-star safety rating from NHTSA. It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes lane-departure alerts, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. On Premium, it also brings blind-spot detection and steering-responsive fog lights.

One caveat is that EyeSight’s cruise-control behavior has an odd flaw: if the car stays stopped for more than 3 seconds, the system turns off and the car can start to roll forward. That is worth checking during a test drive so you understand how it behaves in traffic.

Should I buy a 2017 Subaru Impreza or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It is described as all-new, practical, affordable, and safe, with standard all-wheel drive and affordable tech.

The bottom line: If you want a used Impreza with standard all-wheel drive, strong safety credentials, and useful tech, the 2017 is a sensible target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can shop carefully for a well-kept example near the low end of the range, but you should still prioritize condition and accident history over chasing the absolute cheapest listing.
