Is the 2016 Toyota Highlander a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Toyota Highlander earns a 4.93/5 user rating, which points to very strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its comfort, reliability, and the abundance of features it offers, and they also highlight the powerful V6 and smooth ride. That fits a family-focused SUV that prioritizes everyday ease and versatility over sporty driving. Is the 2016 Toyota Highlander reliable?

Owners rate it 4.93/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The feedback suggests this is the kind of SUV people feel confident keeping for the long haul, especially if they value a smooth, low-stress ownership experience. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about how well a specific example has been maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota Highlander?

At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from ones with accident records. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on the body, suspension, and interior condition. Because this model is often bought for family duty, you should focus on signs of wear that could affect daily usability, not just cosmetic issues.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Toyota Highlander?

This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting a deep buyer’s-market bargain.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,915 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.12% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,932, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Toyota Highlander's resale value?

The current average of $18,087 sits slightly below last year's $18,865.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means future resale gains may be limited if prices keep easing. If you plan to sell later, condition and maintenance history will matter a lot, because well-kept examples should stand out more as the market sorts itself out. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.93/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.12% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.93/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $20,165, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $18,087 average.
• It adds refreshed styling and standard Toyota Safety Sense.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2016 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction. If you can stretch for a newer example and want the refreshed look and added standard safety equipment, the 2017 is the better secondary path.
