Is the 2016 Toyota Avalon a good car?

That lines up well with the Avalon’s role as a refined large sedan that still feels comfortable and composed rather than overly stiff or sporty. What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota Avalon?

At 56.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a prior collision or shows uneven wear. Focus on body condition, tire condition, and signs of repair quality, since those can reveal whether a car’s past has affected its current state. If you’re shopping a hybrid, it also makes sense to pay close attention to how the car drives and whether the ownership record suggests consistent maintenance.

Which 2016 Toyota Avalon trim should I buy?

The 2016 Toyota Avalon is offered in 3 trim levels: XLE Plus, XLE Premium, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XLE Plus: This is the entry point, but it still gives you a strong equipment list with heated leather front seats, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and ignition, and the core comfort features most shoppers want. • XLE Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds navigation, smartphone integration, a 9-speaker stereo, driver memory settings, wireless charging, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. If you want the most useful upgrades without jumping all the way to the top trim, this is the one to target.

Should I buy a 2016 Toyota Avalon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 7.17% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 model year brings a fresh face, a refreshed Entune system, and a new base trim, while the Avalon Hybrid also posts an impressive 40% owner-retention rate.

The bottom line: The 2016 Avalon is the right pick if you want a comfortable, well-liked large sedan with strong owner satisfaction, solid tech, and a market that still supports demand. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep an eye out for listings near the low end of the range and prioritize condition, because accident history is common enough that a careful inspection can make a real difference.
