How much does the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu cost?

Prices have softened 2.06% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 775 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare on price and condition.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu a good car?

Yes — the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its excellent fuel economy, quiet ride, and comfort for family trips, and they also describe it as a strong value for the price. That lines up with the overview’s focus on a practical family sedan that still delivers a composed driving feel and easy everyday use. You should also note that some owners mention warranty concerns and missing features such as fog lights.

With 24.9% of listings priced as good or great deals, you still have room to shop carefully and find a strong-value example.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a car that many drivers see as dependable, with praise for its excellent fuel economy, quiet ride, and comfort on family trips. The expert review also describes it as a sound value play, and the cost-effectiveness notes add that it comes with free factory-scheduled maintenance for 2 years or 24,000 miles. That combination suggests the Malibu can be a sensible long-term ownership choice if you buy a well-kept example.

For used buyers, the main risk is less about the model’s basic durability and more about how the individual car was maintained and whether any warranty-related issues or neglected repairs have accumulated over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Chevrolet Malibu?

At 52.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has any signs of prior bodywork or uneven wear. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re considering. Because some owners mention missing features and warranty concerns, it’s worth checking that everything electrical and convenience-related works as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LS starts with 16-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth, OnStar, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, and cruise control, while the 1LT adds the MyLink 7-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, voice recognition, heated mirrors, and floor mats. The 2LT adds dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, driver’s power lumbar adjustment, and 18-inch alloys, while the 1LTZ adds leather upholstery, unique alloy wheels, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and heated 8-way power front seats.
• Powertrain: The Malibu uses front-wheel drive and two 4-cylinder engines: a 2.5-liter with 196 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque, and a turbocharged 2.0-liter with 259 hp and 295 lb-ft. The 2.5-liter is the efficiency play, while the turbo 2.0-liter is the stronger performer.
• Safety package: The Malibu includes 10 standard airbags, and available safety equipment includes rear-side airbags, side blind-zone alert, a rear-view camera, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning. Some of those features are available rather than standard, so trim level matters.
• Infotainment: The MyLink system uses a 7-inch touchscreen and includes text-message reading and response, iPhone-specific Eyes Free functionality, and app integration such as Pandora and Stitcher. The setup is described as easy to use, with a USB port and power outlet in the center armrest.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.5-liter engine is rated at 25 mpg city and 36 mpg highway, while the turbocharged 2.0-liter returns 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

Which 2014 Chevrolet Malibu trim should I buy?

The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu is offered in 6 trim levels: LS, 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, 1LTZ, 2LTZ.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, and it gives you the essentials at the lowest price, including Bluetooth, OnStar, cruise control, and 16-inch alloy wheels. It makes sense if you want the cheapest way into the Malibu and don’t need the extra comfort or tech features.
• 1LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the MyLink 7-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, voice recognition, heated mirrors, and floor mats without jumping too far up the price ladder. If you want the most useful everyday upgrades, this is the trim to target first.
• 2LT: Choose this if you want a more upscale daily driver, since it adds dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power lumbar adjustment, and 18-inch alloys. It’s a good fit if comfort matters more to you than keeping the budget as low as possible.
• 3LT: This trim is essentially a 2LT with a more powerful standard engine, so it’s the pick if you want the stronger powertrain without moving all the way to the premium trims.
• 1LTZ: This is the premium-grade Malibu with leather upholstery, unique alloy wheels, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and heated 8-way power front seats. It suits you if you want a more upscale cabin and are willing to pay for it.
• 2LTZ: This trim adds a power moonroof and the upgraded engine, making it the top choice if you want the most content and the strongest available setup in the lineup.

The safety package adds useful available features such as rear-side airbags, side blind-zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning, so check the equipment list carefully on any used example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Chevrolet Malibu?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare condition closely.

• Deal availability: 24.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 775 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.06% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 52.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $7,567, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu's resale value?

The current average of $7,726 sits slightly below last year's $7,888.

That tells you the Malibu has softened a bit in the market, which can work in your favor as a buyer but means future resale gains may be limited unless you buy well and keep the car in excellent shape. If you’re planning to sell later, condition, mileage, and maintenance history will matter a lot because the market is already pricing in some depreciation.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu safe?

The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu earns an overall five-star rating from NHTSA and a best-possible Good ranking in all IIHS tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevy equips the Malibu with 10 standard airbags, and available safety features include rear-side airbags, side blind-zone alert, a rear-view camera, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning. The expert review also notes that the forward-collision warning system uses dash-top red lights and audible beeps to alert you without being overly intrusive.

Should I buy a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 24.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 52.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.06% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert review highlights an efficient four-door sedan with comfort, technology, and performance, plus steering that feels tight and sporty at higher speeds.

The bottom line: The 2014 Malibu makes sense if you want a value-oriented midsize sedan with strong owner satisfaction, good fuel economy, and a comfortable driving character. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the current market gives you room to shop carefully and target a well-kept example near the low end of the range.
