Overview

Demand for the 1998 Ford Expedition exceeded production in the full-size SUV's sophomore year. Buyers sought out the Expedition for its size, its surprisingly agile handling, and its interior comfort.
The '98 Expedition was offered in two trim choices, XLT and Eddie Bauer. The Eddie Bauer trim line was targeted, like its namesake Seattle outfitters, at buyers looking for luxury with an outdoorsy feel; it delivered features like captain's-chair seats and leather upholstery. The baseline XLT trim offered plenty of high-end features, though, including dual airbags, antilock brakes, and height-adjustable seatbelts.
An optional third seat brought the 1998 Expedition's passenger capacity to 9. The '98 Ford Expedition also provided a giant 118 cubic feet of cargo capacity.
Under the hood, "big" was the watchword as well. Buyers had a choice of two overhead cam V-8 Triton engines; a 4.6 liter with a 215 horsepower output, or an upgrade to a 5.4 liter, 230 horsepower model.

We love this vehicle, and feel totally spoiled by its comfort, particularly on long trips. Reaches highway speed effortlessly and quietly. We have never needed a major repair, and it is at 166K; mechanic says the Triton engine is one of the best models ever made and it should go much, much farther without needing anything but routine maintenance. By driving it smoothly I routinely get 14.5 mpg in the city, 14.5 to 15 highway, even when driving 70-75 mpg. Superior in so many ways we are afraid to ever sell it, for fear we won't find another vehicle built so well! Absolutely recommend this vehicle for dependability, power and comfort.

Best vehicle I've ever owned. Outstanding reliabilty and performance. With today's higher gas prices it has become less economical to drive. It can handle all the needs of a family. Hauls the family, appliances, boats and pets effortlessly. Great vehicle for the money.

Fun to drive! Lots of power. Take care of it, and it won't let you down! Hard on gas (as a daily driver), but worth it! Perfect for snowy conditions! This one is highly recommended, ...if you can get one! Go for it!!!

This full size SUV has been decent for our family for the past six months. However, it has poor gas mileage with the 5.4L V8 engine and it's hard to maneuver in tight spaces and parking lots sometimes due to it's size. Overall it has been a nice vehicle although it has poor gas mileage.
