95 explorer 4.0 5speed

Asked by Mar 21, 2016 at 05:50 PM about the 1995 Ford Explorer 4 Dr XLT 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

While driving my explorer when I start to change
gears engaging the clutch the engine wants to just
race away until I let out on the clutch then it idles
back down but it's very inconsistent it just like it
does it when ever it wants to ?

Are you certain you are not pressing the accellerator with the other foot? My daughter did this and it drove me crazy until I figured out she was concentrating too much on her clutch work and let her right foot gently push on the gas when she was clutching.
