Can one own a 911 without having a 911 mechanic?

I think you need to get the OBD computer scanned for fault codes. Sounds like more than one problem to me

Sounds like a bad temp sensor, so the car doesn't know it is cold and isn't providing a rich enough fuel mixture to accelerate smoothly. Attach an OBDII sensor ($15 on eBay) and a free smart phone OBDII app or take it to a certified shop to diagnosis the fault. Unless you plan to do the work yourself, taking directly to the mechanic is probably the better advice.
