WHILE TRAVELING 10MPH BARLEY BUMPED CAR IN FRONT OF ME NO DAMAGE TO EXTERIOR OF EITHER CAR BUT AIRBAGS DEPLOYED CAUSEING WINDSHIELD TO SHATTER AND DASH DAMAGE WHY DID AIRBAGS DEPLOY ?

over senitive sensor or you braked hard enough to cause you car to "submarine" under the bumper and hit/triggered the air bag sensor

from what i know they are set to go off at 5mph.

I have a 1996 Sunfire SE Coupe and there was a recall on the airbag sensor around 1998 or so because it was too sensitive. If you bought the car after about '98, I would take it to a GM dealer and have them look and see if the sensor has been fixed.
