Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My '96 V6 firebird has been having trouble with misfiring. i plugged a OBD
sensor in it and at first it said cylinder 1 was misfiring, it worked well and did
not seem like there was a problem. It ran great and on all cylinders until i
washed my car, and now it says that cylinder 2 is misfiring, but it only misfires
on idle and when there is a load on the engine. i don't want to take it to a
mechanic shop until i know whats going on and if i can fix it myself. What
should i do to find out? or how can i fix it?

Give it a tune up and check it isn't something like a bad plug wire, coil/coils or cap/rotor giving you an inconsistent spark. Even micro cracks in the cap can become a problem when water is present.

i'd replace the sparkplug wires if they were never changed. it might be time. change it one by one to keep your firing order intact.

I replaced the spark plug wires and it still misfires. The codes that get thrown are p0302 p0171 p0174 and p0155. Is there a chance it could be a fuel injector?

Swap the injector from the problem cylinder to one of the other cylinders and see if the problem moves as well.

I don't have an answer but I thank you for the answers above because I'm having the exact same problem I'm every time I go to the shop I think they know that I don't know anything about cars they tried to tell me I had to buy an ERG valve or something for $500 and I found it for 60 so I'm very leery of going and I love my car and not sure what to do and I don't know what a spark plug wire even is or where it goes so anyway at least I have some good information thank you and whoever else out there had that problem thank you for posting it,,,
