Multiple Problems Van related

Asked by Chase Jan 13, 2018 at 12:09 AM about the 1999 Pontiac Montana 4 Dr STD Passenger Van Extended

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Small Details:
Alternator New
Battery New
Coolant flushed and filled

When starting the van, there is a lot of popping sounds like popcorn, it does
however eventually turn over and start. Only way to get it to turn over is
holding my foot to the floor. Sometimes I don't have to do this and it just
turns over and starts. You can drive it maybe 5-10 mins and it stalls out.
I took it to the dealership and they tried convincing me that it was a cracked
engine block. This van only has 108,000 mile on it and doesn't get ran hard.
I wasn't sold on the cracked engine block, so I brought it home and now I'm
trying to figure out what to do, or where to start with it.

- Oil is good
-Coolant has been flushed and filled

Engine light is on, no leaks were found by the dealership. They check the ignition module and said that was in tact. They automatically went to the engine being cracked and $2-4k to drop the engine and replace. Something didn't sound right to me about that whole situation. So I brought it home. Engine light is still on. Codes it was displaying, when I took it in: P0118 P0449 P0452

When it finally stays running, it'll only stay running with your foot on the gas, about 2mins after you let off the gas it stalls.

So replacing the Evap Solenoid will take care of Codes 449 and 452? I don't understand why the dealership didn't just start there! The temperature sensor will also fix the gage on the dash not reading the temp of the engine? I did notice the temperature gage wasn't working.

Sometimes when I go like 60-65mph it starts to jerk then it will stop n sometimes the back end shacks likes its gonna fall apart lol, then it stops to. Why???????
