99 3.8L series II no crank-security light on

Asked by Steven Sep 22, 2019 at 01:46 PM about the 1999 Pontiac Firebird Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Symptoms began with slightly delayed crank
until I had to click it a bunch before it would
crank until finally it won't crank at all.
Security light on, starter/battery ok,
electrical ok, is it possible the transponder
key wore out/broke?

Js08016 answered this thankfully, or I'd still be guessing- the VATS activating wires in the lock cylinder wore or broke, hence the only clue- the security light. The fix is found by googling " VATS bypass" . The required resistor procured at a local TV repair shop for a dollar. Thanks everybody, Stevey
