Probably the sensor is worn out and cannot detect the CD...13 years old now assuming original player. I had to change mine and ran in to a few problems because of the security system in the van. It won't power on the new radio/player if the player's code does not jive with the car's computer. In the end, I wired the new system up to the old wiring but ran the main power line to the fuse box. Good luck.
