Should be held in place by a couple of screws (in the back of the steering wheel). Find any screws on the floor?

May have been replaced once if the unit was activated previously and the hardware (screws "Gary" mentioned) were not sufficiently tightened. Not hard to miss since they cannot be seen, just felt. If the unit appears good, just buy some screws and put it back in place. If it looks funny like it is no longer functional, have a dealer check it out. You want it to work if it is needed and there is no way for you to test it.
