Power door locks

Asked by GuruXTLYN Oct 13, 2018 at 11:02 AM about the 2006 Pontiac G6 GT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My ignition key will lock all the doors, but will not unlock the doors or the trunk anymore. The remote works fine locking and unlocking the doors and trunk.  The dealer says it's an actuator problem.  I find it hard to believe it's an actuator in both areas at the same time.  Is this a key issue ar something else?

Maybe the fob needs to be resynced to the car. Check online or in the manual for a procedure to relearn it. I came across one procedure that may or may not work for you: Put key in ignition, hold down door lock button. Turn key in ignition from 'on' to 'off' while continuing to hold 'lock' button. Do this two more times. Release door 'lock' button and press and hold the 'lock' button on remote 15 seconds. System should be resynced. This is from G6ownersclub.com. A lot of times when there has been a question like yours regarding multiple actuator failures, it turns out a simple relearn procedure solved the problem.

I'll try this procedure, but the fob and door lock switch works fine. It's the key that will only lock the doors and won't unlock the doors or trunk.
