Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Well, I father got his van serviced a few months back and apparently they must have done something wrong and now the speedometer won't tell you how fast your going. The pointer stays on 0.

This is a real big problem for me because I just got my license and I need this fixed so I don't have to risk getting pulled over for speeding. I really appreciate any advice I can get, so thanks in advance for your help.

Also, the gas meter, oil meter, battery meter and temperature meter works. Its just the speed meter that won't work.

No cable. Electronic. Check to see if VSS is connected. depending on what work was done check on top of rear differential or rear driver's side of transmission. Best bet is TAKE IT BACK!

If you car is shifting very erratic, and the odometer isn't working too, you probably have a bad Programable.Speedometer.Odometer.Module (PSOM). Cheapest way is to get a cluster from a junk yard close to your year. Just replace the module that contains the speedometer and odometer. Don't forget you may have to program it. (Easy to do). If you have a GPS that can tell you how fast your going, compare it to the replaced module. If it is off by a few miles you will have to reprogram it according to the tire side, revolutions per mile, multiply that by .0135. Go to tiresize.com to determine the revolutions per mile. With that info, GROUND OUT the PSOM wire found ond the passenger side under the dash, it is labeled. Press and hold the reset button while turning the key on but don't start the car. A code will appear on the odometer. (E ## 6) E stands for english, the next 2 digit are the firmware and the last number 6 is the amount of tries you have to correct the code. After you attempt the 6 tries and didn't do it correctly, thats it.you have to buy a new PSOM. More detailed instructions are fount at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8KKvERqe44.
