Check your tie rods ends, they might still be original and need replacing.

So what is the noise? A hum may indicate a bad powering steering pump which makes noise when the wheel is turned but usually silent when pointed straight ahead. I have three explorers of your suspension type, they usually last about 60K before work has to be performed. Are the tires wearing unusually?
